Man found hanged in Sefton Park playground.

The body of a man was discovered hanging from swings in a childrens play area in Sefton Park this morning. The discovery was made by a dog-walker at around 6.45am. The body is believed to be that of a man in his 20s. Police said the cause of death was unknown at this stage, but is not believed to be suspicious.

They got a tent over the swings so it looks like he hung himself from the swings.

Weirdly enough, just down the road from there a guy tried to commit suicide by walking front a bus (or so it appears thus far):

I rarely drive round the north side of park but a few weeks ago I noticed a water theme coming from the Lace/ St Hilda's school side going into the park. It seemed to come from the direction of the old fenced off cave.
I don't recall water being there (as a kid), is it new or did I miss something?
And where does the water flow come from?

I know its had substantial renovation recently, so I was wondering was it a grot spot tidied or a massive improvement?

Think it was always there John it has just become totally silted up and overgrown.  One of the main bits of the renovation was to restore the original water features with a proper flow from the grotto at the north end right down through the park into the lake at the Aigburth end.  I cycle round it most nights and it's really looking nice now.

Walked up/down Lark Lane this avvy - had a quick half then walked down to the Park.

2 fella's were out the game - doing a double starfish in the middle of the lawned area.

So I walked on, found a space, put me iPod on and did me own little starfish, staring up at the clouds.

Sevvy Park is boss.

I read once in The Observer - it had an article about south Liverpool; described it as a hidden gem.
They weren't wrong.

Cygnets orphaned by dog attack in Liverpool’s Sefton Park

May 28 2010 by Laura Jones, Liverpool Echo

Swan attack at Sefton Park lake

CONCERN is growing for six baby cygnets after their mother was killed in a savage attack by a dog.

The female swan was killed after being mauled by a Staffordshire bull terrier-type dog at about 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Despite her best efforts, passer-by Kit Friery, who plunged into the lake to bring the swan to the shore in a bid to stop it from drowning, was unable to save the bird.

Now RSPCA experts worry that without his mate, the cygnets’ father could abandon them, leaving the brood- of-six orphaned and vulnerable in the wild.
Swan attack at Sefton Park lake

The baby birds are only a few weeks old and at this stage still depend on their parents for protection from predators.

But under wildlife protection laws, unless the birds are injured they cannot be forcibly removed by RSPCA officers – even if they are concerned about their future.

Liverpool RSPCA animal welfare officer Derek Hampson said: “This is a very sad incident which has left six cygnets without a mother at a crucial time of life.

“The male bird has moved them to another lake and we are hoping he will stay with them.

“The cygnets are a few weeks old but they are still very vulnerable and need their parents for protection from predators. “We will be visiting the park every day over the next few days to monitor the situation.”

Dog walkers and members of the public visiting the park are also being asked to alert the RSPCA if they see that the cygnets have been abandoned.
......and could he play!

Waiting to happen unfortunately saw a little insane Jack Russel attacking them the other week, the birds just slapped their wings at it and the dog got removed by the owners. Same thing happened with another dog two minutes later. Too many people can't control their dogs. From the rest of the echo article:

Quote
Yesterday police confirmed the dog owner involved in the attack on the swan voluntarily contacted police.

She arrived at a south Liverpool station yesterday and was interviewed under caution, although she was not arrested.

A police spokesperson said: “Arrangements will be made for a police dog handler to visit the woman’s home and examine the dog in question, but there is nothing to suggest at this stage that it is a banned breed.”

To be honest I find myself wanting to see her punished, people have to be responsible for their pets and if they can't be they shouldn't have them. My god I sound old.

I noticed the swans on the lake as I drove past a few days ago - graceful, exquisite and not a regular sight on Sefton Park lake. Fucking scum dog owners, I'd drown the horrible specimens, not fit to breathe decent peoples air.

The problem is with these new dog owners, they have no experience with dogs and don't know how to control them. They put us responsible dog owners in a bad light.

I seen the father with the cygnets yesterday evening. I'm a bit worried for them because it looked like he was waiting for his mate to come back and the cygnets really need their mother, I don't think the father quite has motherhood skills.  :(

I'll do me best to give you the scene..

There's three benches -blue (sounds like a film that) with each bench positioned symmetrically on an arc of paving with some light shrubbery at low level, a grid cover in the middle of the arced pathway (stoned grey..should be quite apt for sevvy park that) and what looks like the sound deflector at the end of manchester airport runway that has been placed to follow the arc of the path but set behind the shrubbery (love that word) with what can only be described as some clothes line hanging from out posts that come of said sound deflector.....oh ye, and a bin, and that's blue as well. With some massive trees in the background.

Ta dar!

Unconvinced as well. Think the shrubbs are supposed to climb up the wall and over the cloth lines, but that hasn't happened yet and i'm not sure it will anytime soon either.

Drove round there a couple of times during the day on the way to the hozy and it was great to see how busy it was. In contract to these dull July days, it was a lovely warm weekend and the crowds certainly gathered.
