Don't forget Geoff that Yorkie would prefer a Tory government over a Corbyn one, speaks volumes of the man
Don’t talk bollocks lad. This is what was actually said.
Both Tory and Labour will struggle when Britain exits Europe. Neither will be able to protect jobs. I'd always rather have a Labour government in power because at least they'll try to defend the social services and protect the poorest. Corbyn appears to believe that things will be quite easy once Labour is in government. But it will be a hard slog. Corbyn's economic ideas will take a right battering of course and he'll probably go down in history as the second worst Labour premier in history - which is a bit unfair on MacDonald actually. What little is left of the socialist tradition in this country will fall into disrepute because of this.
For that reason alone it might be better to have a Tory government. And, after all, they are the ones that led us into the Brexit mess. Not that Corbyn ever tried to stop them.
So just to clarify - no one
wants a Tory government but if a one-term Corbyn-led Labour government lands us with Tories for a generation, and only in that situation, it might better to let the Tories deal with the immediate aftermath of Britain leaving the EU.
It’s difficult to keep track of what thread we’re in but based on Corbyn's shambolic handling of the anti-semitism issue, his lock-step with the Tory right over Brexit and the complete absence of any detailed economic or industrial policy I share Yorky’s concerns.
Because, and let’s be absolutely clear about this, the purpose of a Labour government has to be the needs and concerns of those who need us most over the long term. That means a sustained period of Labour government not a one-off ‘let’s-support-Brexit-and-hope-the-Tories-crash-and-burn-so-we-can-play-trains’ Labour government.
Anyway - back to the issue at hand.
