Great game starting this round.

Carlton V Richmond. Half time a point in it.

I have a ticket for tomorrows game for Melbourne V Kangeroo's at the 'G'. Should be fun :)

I think we (Melbourne) will get up.

Just got back from the G.

Well I was right Melbourne did get up and just by a kick.

But oh my, both teams where shocking.

Both Melbourne and the Kangeroo's won't be troubling anyone this year.

The one positive about the day is the MCG looks fantastic.

I have a ticket for tomorrows game for Essendon V Hawthorn ( I got a medalian pass from work for the Melbourne game) and I am tempted to go.

I think it will be a great game and anyone who has a chance to watch James Hird play should take advantage IMO.

Be an interesting game.....Bombers with the 5 day break vs the 8 day break Hawks. We are better than them no matter how many days off they've had. We'll win.

Absolute shambles to the end of the St Kilda - Fremantle game.

I was watching on the TV but can't describe properly the farce that happened.

Freemantle coach was livid and the Saints coach thought it was funny :P

Well I guess the result should stand as the rules state that the quarter is only over when the umpire signals it is, not when the siren sounds.

I thought they had errr vibrating things in their pockets (right, that sounds majorly dodgy I know) to avoid this. As the siren sounds, they would also have a small piece of equipment that would vibrate.

Having said that, it couldn't have happened to a nicer team than Fremantle ;)

I think it will be a great game and anyone who has a chance to watch James Hird play should take advantage IMO.

Not the player he was but still worthy of his nickname - the Rolls Royce.

Round 5 in the "no more high flying marks" championship:

Richmond 12.20.(92) def. Carlton 11.18.(84)

Melbourne 13.12.(90) def. Kangaroos 12.14.(86)

Adelaide 20.12.(132) def. Western Bulldogs 7.13.(55)

Sydney Swans 15.17.(107) def. Geelong 13.7.(85)

West Coast Eagles 18.14.(122) def. Brisbane Lions 9.9.(63)

St Kilda 13.16.(94) dr Fremantle 14.10.(94)

Collingwood 18.12.(120) def. Port Adelaide 11.13.(79)

Hawthorn 12.12.(84) def. Essendon 12.11.(83)

Close finishes in the Demons v Kangas, Saints v Freo, and Hawks v Bombers games. Collingwood notching up the wins, while Adelaide and West Coast look pretty strong. The "I didn't hear the siren" finish to the Freo v Saints game at Launceston :o, would certainly piss you off if you were a Dockers fan.

Good grabs Red Death, saw them too. But I think you would agree its (high marking) a dying art, due the high possession and running game of today. They were all great marks but stand out because you don't see as many these days.

Watched the West Coast v Brisbane game and the crowd were booing when Brisbane were chipping it around. Mind you, they weren't booing when West Coast were doing it but at least the fans are starting to show their opinion of these basketball tactics.

True....its a possession game these days, and there is not as many hangers.

DK: think the AFL is going to do something about the 'chipping in the backline' tactics now employed by every club: there certainly has been some noises made about it.

Remember tuning into the West Coast/Lions game on the AFL website, and you can get the 'live score' pop up box with the game map and all the stats. They have this feature where if a player is 'hot' they'll say so by notifying you of their performance in the last 15 minutes. So anyway, 4 and a half minutes into the first quarter up comes this flash: "Chris Judd: 9 possessions in the last 15 minutes".....even though the game had only been going for under 5.

The Eagles will be hard to toss this year.

A Collingwood girl walks into the local dry cleaners. She places a garment on the counter.
"I'll be back tomorrow afternoon to pick up my dress." she says.

"Come again?" says the worker, cupping his ear.
"No" she replies. "This time it's mayonnaise."

Another Collingwood girl was involved in a serious crash; there's blood everywhere.

The paramedics arrive and drag the girl out of the car till she's lying flat out on the floor.

Medic: "OK, I'm going to check if you're concussed."
Sharon: "Ok."
Medic: "How many fingers am I putting up?"
Sharon: "Oh my god I'm paralysed from the waist down!"

**
A Collingwood girl goes to Centrelink to register for child benefit. "How many children?" asks the assessor. "10" replies the Collingwood girl
"10?" says the council worker. "What are their names?"

"Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne and Wayne"
"Doesn't that get confusing?"
"Naah..." says the Collingwood girl.
"Its great because if they are out playing in the street I just have to shout WAAYNE, YER DINNER'S READY or WAAYNE GO TO BED NOW and they all do it..."
"What if you want to speak to one individually?" says the perturbed council worker.

"That's easy," says the Collingwood girl... "I just use their surnames"
**
Collingwood Girl enters a sex shop & asks for a vibrator.

The man says "Choose from our range on the wall."
She says "I'll take the red one."
The man replies "That's a fire extinguisher."

**
A Collingwood girl was driving down the Eastern Hwy when her car phone rang.
It was her boyfriend, urgently warning her, "Treacle, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on the Eastie Highway.
Please be careful!"
"It's not just one car!" said the Collingwood girl, There's hundreds of them!"

It may not be over however as the Saints may appeal against it

That truly is a landmark decision from the AFL. Glad they had the balls to do it.

The Saints have a point though, the laws of the game clearly state that it should have been a draw.

St Kilda accepts defeat

St Kilda will not take further action over the AFL commission's controversial decision to award victory in Sunday's clash to Fremantle.

In a statement, the club's general manager of communications, Georgie Fidge said the St Kilda board had met this morning [Thurs 4 May] to consider the club's options.

"The main item on the agenda was to consider whether the interests of the club were best served by pursuing further legal action in search of the two points, or to focus all energy on our remaining 2006 campaign," the statement read.

"The unanimous decision was not to proceed with further legal action," it said.

I actually posted a thread on it in the off topic board, but got a slap on the wrist for it as it was against RAWK policy to do so: they actually threatend to cut off my head and have the rest of me torn apart by rabid dogs if I ever posted another pic of Shane Warne in his play boy underwear playing with a giant inflatable cock. I don't think it would hurt to post the link, though. If I don't post again, goodbye, at least you know my fate. Tell Cameron Diaz that I love her, and that we'll meet again some day if they allow sex in heaven.

Blues seek immediate AFL financial help

Thursday May 11 23:20 AEST

Carlton will seek immediate financial assistance from the AFL to avoid insolvency.

New president Graham Smorgon told Channel Nine's The Footy Show on Thursday night the club was up to $1.5 million in deficit for this financial year.

Only two months ago, then-president Ian Collins said the cash-strapped Blues were determined to avoid seeking special financial assistance from the league.

But Carlton will meet with the commission next week.

"No, we won't get through to the end of the year at the moment," Smorgon said.

"We are in consultation with the AFL, we've had a review done by Price Waterhouse that looked at all of our numbers.

"It's the first time the club has had to put its hand out to the AFL.

"We're about a million to a million and a half (dollars) short for this financial year, it's pretty bad."

Smorgon added the club would also talk to the league about paying less than the required 92.5 per cent of the salary cap next year.

He is "very hopeful" of an announcement soon about the redevelopment of part of the club's MC Labour Park home ground.

Smorgon took over from Collins last month as Carlton president.

Carlton will play Essendon on Sunday, with the two sides and Brisbane all on the bottom of the ladder with only win apiece from the opening six rounds.

Frig me: I had a relation who played for Carlton in the '80's. Used to go to a couple of their games, and I can assure you they had some heavy financial muscle behind them back then. What happened? Either now financially insolvent (Elliot and co.) or dead in the Melbourne Gangster wars. (!!)
Blame me for all the draft threads on RAWK

I think there's probably a number of factors such as:

 - the Blues' membership is around 6,000 down on last year resulting in reduced revenue

 - the club was fined nearly $1 million in late 2002 after being found guilty of systematic breaches of the salary cap under former president John Elliott.

 - their financial position has not been helped by the club's on-field performance with the Blues (who along with Essendon share the record for most premierships in the competition) having endured the worst five years in their history.  Since the start of 2002 the club has won just 23 of 95 matches and has suffered from also missing out on draft picks as a result of its salary cap breaches.

 - they are being forced to pay for the upkeep of a ground from which they no longer receive income by playing matches there (Princes Park).

Looks like my Swans are getting back on track. We're always slow starters so it was only a matter of time.

They looked good last weekend in their 118 point shalacking of Richmond.  Very impressive!

Round 8 results:

   Melbourne         20.16 136 def. Hawthorn          9. 7 61
   Richmond          10. 9  69 def. Adelaide          9.12 66
   Fremantle         13. 6  84 def. Kangaroos         6.13 49
   Collingwood       22.14 146 def. Geelong           6. 8 44
   Sydney Swans      17.14 116 def. Western Bulldogs 14. 6 90
   Brisbane Lions    22.15 147 def. Port Adelaide    10.18 78
   St Kilda          18.18 126 def. Carlton           4.10 34
   West Coast Eagles 16.17 113 def. Essendon         14. 8 92

Big wins to the Dees, Magpies, Lions and Sainters. The stand out result of the week was Collingwood's absolute demolition of Geelong at the MCG. Employing the old age and successful method of "attacking" the opposition, Collingwood had Geelong on the ropes early and continued to hammer them relentlessly. Malthouse has Collingwood ticking over quite nicely...this can't continue, can it?
