There was literally no-one who thought Karius was a better goalkeeper than him. I did question whether he was worth 60million more than Karius when we had other areas of the team to strengthen - and I was wrong. He's absolutely and undoubtedly world class, very probably the very best there is right now, and while Karius didn't actually cost us anything other than the CL final - those were his only two goal-costing errors of the whole season - he didn't pull off the worldies that Alisson does, and good as he was with the ball at his feet, he didn't launch attacks like Alisson does, either.Certainly tonight showed exactly why he's worth the money - a difference-maker at both ends of the pitch, in a position where most teams are content to just have someone who stops goals going in.
Anyone else think he seemed back to his most confident with the ball at his feet again tonight, especially noticeable in the 1st half? Looked a massive save just before we broke for the 3rd.
So bloody what? If you watch football to be absolutely miserable then go watch cricket.
The sequence of play that led to our third underlines what he's all about, a reflex save followed by a great show of athleticism to prevent a corner which he rounded off with a good throw out to put us on the counter.Top class keeper.
How the heck did we manage to put 7 past him over two legs last season???
Past two games he's delivered a stature of goalkeeping weve needed for years....not spectacular..but a level of command thatsends waves of reassurance through the rest of the team...and us fans!!
Highlights how good our front 3 were playing last season
Fantastic. To think that folks wanted to keep Karius when this man was available. lol.
You get what you pay for, this lad is looking a bargain.
His quick thinking has led to two late goals.
Anyone else being strangely drawn to Dion Dublin's nipples?
Strictly speaking, we wanted to keep Karius when this man was not available. But carry on.
In fairness, let’s not re-write history. Showing support for Karius was fine, but there were a lot of posters over the summer acting as if Alisson wouldn’t have been a significant upgrade on him. It was nothing to do with whether Alisson was available or not and everything to do with making out as if Karius was some borderline elite keeper. It doesn’t really matter because he’s here and he’s smashing it which is great for us, but still.
He looked delightful in Pink tonight. Dreamy.
As someone who was part of most of those conversations, no. You might be thinking of Oblak.I think Alisson is outperforming expectations. We're not going back over the Karius thing. He was fine until he got concussion, but maybe you are one of the weirdos who doesn't believe in medical science, whatever. We have a great keeper, that's all that matters.
Nice try, but no. He absolutely was concussed and that (possibly - as it’s impossible to say for sure) played a part in what happened in the final. In fact, I’m pretty sure my first post after the final was hoping he had the right support network around him to help him cope with what happened. I just know what I was reading in the various Karius threads. But yes, I agree on the end point and that’s the last I’ll say because I also would rather focus on how amazing Alisson is.
