I'll be honest, I had no idea hurricanes could make their way all the way to the British Isles.  :o
technically it isn't a hurricane! ;)

News here has shown a couple of swimmers diving into 20 feet high waves in Galway.

Kinda hoping they drown, to be perfectly honest. That'll learn them.
Why the actual fuck would anyone do that?

Lost all the cladding on the roof and what looks like a shitload of tiles. Sounded like the roof wanted to go at one point, but that might have been the metal which is twisted up.

A neighbour went to move/drive his car at one point and got blown back about 20 feet head first into timber fence. He's from me but I think he left the ground at one point.

Its only been 6 hours but I really miss electricity.

Schools to remain closed tomorrow, according to Richard Bruton

Apparently colleges have to decide for themselves.

Here in Dublin we've not had it too bad to be honest. But its early yet, the West coast and MW are getting hammered right now.

Dublin Port said it will get worse until about 7pm, then gradually calm down

This is complete bullshit.
For no reason whatsoever schools are cancelled in Dublin for tomorrow as well.

The fuck am I and other parents supposed to do now?
Both of us working, we now have to organise and pay to mind the kid for no reason at all.
Wind in Dublin region does not warrant this reaction, closing everything down, no public transport.

I can understand the frustration. Schools up here are closed too. But safety is paramount here. In a situation like this, the first in my 35 years, I'd rather the schools be 100% certain of my child's safety and lose a day of work.

I'm all for safety, but by tomorrow Ophelia is somewhere above Scotland - so what exactly is the reason to cancel school for another day and cause further logistical problems for parents. Schools here are organised with zero, and I do mean zero regard for working parents - this is just rubbing salt in the wound so to speak.
