Taken from the Agenda for the meeting of Liverpool City Council's Area Committee F (Vauxhall, Breckfield, Everton Abercromby) on June 20th 2001:
"Agenda Item 16 - For Information Only
Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs
At the Walton Area Committee on 02 March, 2001, Councillor Bob Lancaster requested a report on the current position in relation to the above, the report to be submitted within two cycles.
In relation to Liverpool Football Club, the Council is advised that the Club is still considering a number of options, and that the decision on a final option has been delayed because of the Club’s involvement in a number of major competitions towards the end of the season.
Two Council cycles is 12 weeks; community insiders believe some kind of announcement is due soon. This is a vital time for Liverpool Football Club and every Liverpool fan.
Over the next few days this website will be bringing you opinion about the ground move, asking whether you feel YOUR opinion has been canvassed by the Club, and making suggestions as to how to make your voice heard, no matter which side of the debate you find yourself upon.
To get things under way we have invited three prominent fans and writers to present their views. Red and White Kop columnist Paul Tomkins discusses the issues and explains why he remains undecided. David Neve presents the case for the move, and Alan Edge presents the case against the move.
I'd like to raise a glass (any excuse !) in thanks to all three contributors for bringing an informed perspective to the debate. The issue is important, but it provides fascinating and entertaining reading too. The articles will be filed in the INFORMATION section of this site in a special section entitled STADIUM DEBATE.
Right, I'm going to refill that glass, sit down and re-read all the articles, in readiness for giving voice to my own conclusions about the issue.
Paul Tomkins - I used to be undecided ...
Alan Edge - The case against the move
David Neve - The case for the move
After you've read the articles pop along to our Stadium debate forum and give us your views. |
