Which? magazine or similar
« on: November 8, 2005, 08:55:36 AM »
Has anyone got free access to Which? mag or something along those lines? Or has anyone got the knowledge on new TV's at the mo?  My mate's looking at buying one for about £2.5k and I'm not sure that the one she's thinking about is the best for the price it's at.  Can anyone offer any advice please?

The current one she's looking at is the Panasonic TH42PV500

Try doing a search on google for "TV best buys independent reviews".

That way you avoid all the crap reviews from the companys themselves and get instead to read  what other customers have thought. Worked for me when buying a mobile phone, MP3 player etc...
Bill Shankly to a Liverpool fan:
"Where are you from?"
"I'm a Liverpool fan from London."
"Well laddie . . . . What's it like to be in heaven?"

Will have a look on the Which? website when i can find the log in details

Updated -

The Sony KE-P42M1 is an excellent TV and our first plasma Best Buy. It scores well across the board but picture quality raises it clearly above rivals. It offers vivid colours and good detail, especially on DVD movies. Home cinema fans should be in raptures especially as this model is cheaper than most big branded rivals. It costs £1,800 from Miller Brothers but is cheaper online. However the Sony is not HD ready. The screen resolution is too low and it doesn’t have the necessary sockets. So if you’re preparing for the future, we suggest you look elsewhere.

The file below is the table from Which?

As far as I know the 500 is very well regarded though but only ever really seen them in shops with the usual lousy setup as opposed to in a proper demo myself

It's a she, and the one she's looking at is £2999 in John Lewis with the cabinet thingy. Still can't believe they sell those "stands" for £500 wtf :o

Thanks for the Which? stuff Lynz. I had a feeling they hadn't done a tv one for a while and those results seem to suggest it, but it looks as if the Panasonic seems to be a good buy.  I trawled through avforums this morning, killed a few hours at work :)

Thanks to others for input too!

I bought my telly for £100 off the rental company after renting it for a few years. It's got a remote control and a fairly big screen, which isn't flat but then again I don't often look at the telly from the side so I'm not bothered about that.

If I had to replace it I don't think I'd be happy paying more than about £350, would probably rent again if I had to pay more.

Have you tried typing Panasonic TH42PV500 straight into google? Plenty of sites and you might get it a bit cheaper.

John Lewis will do a price match on other local retailers so she should be able to get it a bit cheaper than that, plus they give a decent five year warranty with their TVs
