Jim Beglin last night
« on: September 30, 2005, 12:38:42 PM »
Not sure this should be on this part of the forum but seeing as he is an ex-red..........

Why did Jim Beglin in commentating on the Everton game last night kept refering to Everton as 'WE' ?

'If we score now', etc.........

What link has Beglin had with Everton or is it a support English teams in Europe thing ?
I clutch the wire fence until my fingers bleed,
A wound that will not heal, a heart that cannot feel.
Hoping that the horror will recede,
Hoping that tomorrow we'll all be freed.........JUSTICE.

And he is Irish, so why he would say we for an English team. May be he still lives in Liverpool??

I assume it's just supporting the English teams in Europe hat he was wearing.
I do know that he's brother runs the Everton supporters club in Jim's hometown of Waterford and is the biggest RED hater you'll ever meet. Also Jim is in fact a Chelsea fan, he'll tell you that himself. Says it's the team he latched onto as a kid. ::)

He's never had a good word to say about us when he has commentated on our games as well.

What is it with Irish ex-Reds? Lawro,Beglin even Ray Houghtan rarely have anything positive to say, thank God for Aldo and Ronnie Whelan otherwise I would be really worried.
We need to find the link between our traditions and our present experience. Nowness, or the magic of the present moment, is what joins the wisdom of the past with the present.

wrong,  also ronnie whelan loves to stick knives and twist them into us. energetic midfielder but a real sinister feck, under a blanket of a soft voice.

On 'you're on sly sports' he just loves to ridicule every player.  Was nothin special himself and should count himslef lucky that he was carried by 9 great players.  ;)

Aldo is the only one with any class among those other fat, "can't manage a team" spikos.

Beglin also mentioned last night that everton where really where unbeatable in europe before heysel. he obviously has an axe to grind with us. he walked past me in Monaco with Tyldsley on the way into the stadium, should have smacked him one there and then.

I cant understand what the problem is with these 3 idiots. They never have a good word to say about us and all 3 seem very bitter for some unknown reason.

The main commentator (Tyldsley?) also said Everton were 'arguably the best team in Europe [in the 80s] but the Heysel ban meant they could not prove it'
'At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques.'

I am not defending them. Have have no real idea.

Perhaps they are "bitter" because this missed the money by a few years.

The side of the eighties was possibly the best side ever but missed out on all the cash the players are earning these days by 5-10 years or so.

I know they earned a lot of money compared to the rest of us but the money average players earn these days is much more "in terms of inflation and stuff" than these players made.

Perhaps some players at LFC earned big bucks compared to some of the more average players.

I am not saying it's true but it could be a reason why some of the "media" people have a go because they have to work rather then having a cushey life.

Just a thought.

was gonna run a book on how many times heysel was mentioned last night.

I think Babel to Rafa is a bit like putting a Zebbidy piece on a chess board - he might do something that looks good but it's nothing to do with your plan, which he's bouncing all over and generally fucking up.

i always think missing out on the big money makes some of our ex players bitter.
Of course they are entitled to constructively criticise, as is anyone, thats life, everyone has opinions, but some people just seem to be slightly obsessive about slating us.

jealousy about money?
missing the big time?

who knows!

They got chance this season to prove they are 'the best team on Merseyside' (their quote) and failed miserably. Not sure they would have faired so badly all those years ago but why they imagine they would have been champions of europe is beyond me.

Like they believed as they finished above us last year that they could in fact win he CL, I hope the hard bump of reality didn't hurt them too much.

We deal with facts here and what has happened not what some slack jawed idiot of a pundit blurts out. Beglin is a twat and I am sorry I have no other word for him. If I ever see him (again) I will politely and very calmly tell him so as well.

Considering it was the bluenoses who ended his career you would think Beglin might have been a bit more anti-Everton than he was. But no, he persisted in mentioning Heysel and all the other bitter shite you associate with a diehard blue. What a twat.

Ronnie Whelan was a class act in himself.

A bit similar to Garcia but could tackle better.....gave ball away a little, but many assists and some very big goals, in important games.
