would anyone take RG3 over Luck?

I would much rather have RG3 over Luck.  Luck tailed off in the latter half of the season.  He beat up on smaller teams and struggled against the better defenses.  With RG3, I like the better package of speed and arm.

It shouldn't come as a surprise though.  The schedule is a fixed rotation.  So the Patriots get 6 games from the 3 other AFC East teams so matter what.  Then they play 4 games from one other AFC division, 4 games from one NFC division, and two teams from the other AFC divisions that finished in the same position.

So this year the AFC East gets the AFC South and NFC West.  Since those two divisions aren't very strong, the AFC East teams have a perceived weaker schedule.  The Patriots still have to play the winners of the AFC North and AFC West.  The Ravens won the North and the Broncos won the West.  Once again, it looks easier.

For the Giants, the NFC East gets the NFC South and the AFC North. In addition, since the G-Men won the division last year, they've got to play the winners of the other NFC divisions:  Niners and Packers.

It's all rotational for the entire division except the two games against teams from the other two divisions from the same conference that finished in the same position.  AFC East teams got a lucky draw this time around (or so it looks).

The NFL schedule is nothing surprising and nothing random.  It's 100% planned.  After a season is over, a team will immediately know every team it will play next year.  In fact, a team will always know 14 of their 16 games for every season from here on out, unless there's some re-alignment of divisions or additions of teams.

I actually wished the schedules were 100% random.  Then, I'd have more excuses as a Jets fan.  :P

You make some interesting points and I learned some things I didn't know before.  Thanks, you big killjoy. :P ;)

Schedule is backloaded. Again. I predict we'll start 5-2 and be a hot team and then 'collapse' to finish 9-7. Maybe make the playoffs, maybe not depending on how the league and division are. Coughlin just can't get his team to play in the second half of the season, and the Giants always fall apart. Except those two times he won the Super Bowl.

:D

Not at all. RG3 is a great QB no doubt, but Indy can't pass on Luck. He fits into the QB mould that they want. RG3 is a more dynamic player and I am sure that he will do great at Washington, but Indy should take Luck who has all the tools to be a superstar for years to come.

But rest assured, I know fuck all. I just think in the modern game when you have an athletic talent like that, who is such a good passer, you cant go wrong. Cam Newtown plus

RG3 is super athletic but Luck I think had similar combine 40 as Newtown so has legs to go with passing ability.

A lot of it is posturing. They want an awful lot of money from the local government for the new stadium.

The Minny Senate committee voted 8-6 on Friday to approve a public subsidy to help the Vikes build a new stadium which conveniently came just hours after Goodell & Rooneys visit to the state capital. It still doesn't guarantee a new stadium will be approved & built but it's a step forward following a set back earlier in the week which prompted the rise of the move to LA rumours.

What's the next step in getting funding for the Vikings new stadium approved, i know this happens a lot in US Sports when a Franchise want a new stadium, but how likely given there history in Minny, would it be for the Vikings moving to another City?

Even when they were reaching the SBs, didn't the Rams & Raiders suffer from poor attendances during there stints in LA,?

I know the Raiders did.

They were thrown into the Memorial coliseum with a promise of a new stadium that never came at the time, I think, and attendances were poor.

It's down to markets really; LA's a primarily a basketball one, sure, USC and UCLA enjoy some success, and the town is big enough to accomodate all kinds of sports (I actually would love it if the Raiders went back to La La Land), but I dunno, LA could show more commitment to bringing a team. That it's taking so long is no accident.

AEG wants a stake in any team that would come, and if LA only have AEG as the option to bring a team, then unless Anschutz changes his stance, this will take a while (if ever).

So the draft is tonight and the 1st 2 picks are a lock, the Vikings pick @ 3 will be very interesting anyone else think they might trade the 3rd pick?

Hope the Jets draft a WR in the 1st round we need some offensive weapons!

Will the Browns pick up or pass on Trent Richardson?

Ah thanks...hmm 1am will be a struggle - I think it started a bit earlier last year? Have to say not followed the draft much this year, hopefully the Titans get some help on D or a speedy WR.

I think the Vikings would love to trade the pick, but probably won't find anyone to pay the price they want.  They'll end up taking that OT, in all likelihood, even though they need CB help really badly.

It's a shame I don't live in the US any more.  I always used to enjoy watching the draft for some perverse reason.  Over/under on use of the word "upside" in ESPN's first round conversation, anyone?

Not on tv at all? Sky have shown it in the past & it was on ESPN last year.

I reckon the Vikings end up taking Kalil at 3, not normally many quality tackles around, will still be good corners to be had early in the 2nd round.

I can't see anybody trading up to number 3, as there isn't really a stand out player to go that high & get. The Vikings will probably take Matt Kalil. The Browns could take a punt at Ryan Tannehill because Colt McCoy is awful, but I don't see them taking him, they'll probably go for Richardson, leaving Tannehill to go to the Dolphins.

In defence of Colt McCoy he doesn't have much to work with. They should take Richardson at 4 & a reciever with the other 1st rounder. If McCoy is still pants then they have to find a QB next year

I don't follow college football--go pro and then maybe I'll bother learning your name--but I keep hearing this is the deepest WR draft in years, possibly ever?  Maybe it makes more sense to use that first rounder on one of the other need positions?

Off the top of my head, I count pass rusher, outside linebacker, safety, right tackle, and running back.

Thanks to Jerry Reese and Co., being a Giants fan is especially nice this time of year.  They take care of depth in need positions via free agency and then draft raw talent that can be coached up to fit the system.  Very little in the way of drama, which makes watching everyone else (well, almost) scramble all the more entertaining. ;D

Peter King wrote an interesting piece about it in this week's SI:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1197596/1/index.htm

Pretty busy day for NY between the Draft, Game 7 for the Rangers at the Garden, and the last day of the NBA regular season.

Don't really post in this thread and I'm not sure why. Bears fan here. I'd love Chandler Jones, the DE out of Syracuse but the way he's been going up boards in the last week or so I'm not even sure he'll be there at 19. If not him, then Nick Perry wouldn't be a bad choice.

I've been watching the buildup since 6pm on the NFL Network. You can subscribe to it here for a month for £2.99 - https://network.nfl.com/nfln/secure/packages - worth it IMO to get all the coverage this weekend.
