How far will we go in all the competitions this season?
« on: August 5, 2005, 05:07:10 PM »
6 competitions this year, surely we'll have some silverware.I reckon...

Super Cup- our match against CSKA Moscow is coming up at the end of the month as we,the european champions ;D , take on the UEFA Cup holders. I expect this to be our first trophy of the season. Moscow are a decent side and i expect a tight game but our fitness levels should be up after our early start to pre-season. Hope the beginning of the League wont interfere with it too much, but we must beware- UEFA Cup holders can win it, as WE proved not so long ago. Predict:WIN

The Premiership-This is the big one, where we need the most improvement and one of only 2 trophies we havent won before (World Club Championship is the other). Fifth last season was extremely disappointing, especially finishing behind Everton but I reckon it will be a different story this year. Its unlikely we'll have as many injuries again plus Rafa has learnt alot about English football over the last year,so should be better equippped as the manager. With Stevies future settled I'm expecting the best season from him yet and the new additions have filled in most of the areas which we lacked in before. We've got a bigger squad and a few of the new lads already have Prem experience, plus theres a reliable keeper between the sticks (we will all miss Jerzy though, I'm sure!). I dont think we will be able to win it this season, Chelsea will no doubt. I reckon we will be in the running till about January then slowly drop of abit as our season is the longest. I dont think we have enough to last till May but it should still be a better campaign overall. We should aim to lose less than 10 games and be within 15 points of the top. Predict: Third place

Champions League: Would love a repeat of last season :) As the holders we can go into the competition with no fear, knowing that we can beat anyone, even if we're 3-0 down! I personally feel we're more likely to retain the European Cup than win the Premier League but to expect us to acheive the feat of last season again is almost asking too much. i think we could do it,afterall we've only strenghened the team from last season, but I reckon our commitments to the League and tiredness will stop us. A trip to Paris next summer? Possibly. Predict: Quarter finals

Carling Cup:- Gives the youngsters another chance to prove themselves. They did very well last year and it was nice to see some of them take another step up. Dont particularly mind how far we go in this competition but we always seem to do well. Pedict: Semi Finals

World Club Championship If we go, theres only two matches and it'll give us the chance to say 'we're the best in the world' ;D (which we all know anyway).Could affect our League campaign, as Parry said Predict: Win

FA Cup I think its our turn again this year. After the disappointment of last year Rafa will want to go all the way in this competition. We have the players to cope with a full run.Us against Chelsea in the final! If not, then a decent run atleast. Predict: Win

Your thoughts? I think they are fairly achieveable targets. Bring on the rest of the season!!!

Super Cup - Win.

With our style very much attuned for european soccer, i will say 78% chances of winning this.
2-1 to us the likely result

League Cup - Semis.

Our reserve squad looks stronger this season and barring any back luck or bad ref calls we should make it to the semis. Once there though things look tough. if we play reserve squad then highly likely we might lose. if we play our first team then it could affect our league, champions league and fa cup. by then most of our first team could have played on too many games, hence in order to concentrate on our more important competitions, we might lose the semis

FA Cup - Semi

Good chance we will travel there and meet man u or chelsea. and in an one off game, we might lose to them

Champions league - Win

Provided we reach the group stages, i have a feeling we will win it for the second time. Better squad, more depth, more experience, confidence and a bit of freakish luck again we will win this one. However keeping our fingers crossed regarding sofia. have been reading abt the divine coincidence that we will lose to sofia just like many years ago. hope this is not true

Premier League

Second or third. to missed some games due to champions league matches and world club cup matches could give us an advantage. why? cause this means the league dun come thick n fast, this means that players will take one game at a time. liverpool will always be behind our teams in terms of games played and gve us the slight impression that we are underdogs. this could give us the advantage as we all know how the tag make us go all the way in the champions league. make us the surprise package of the season always with a chance to topple the top.

arsenal looks a lot weaker than last season. while chelsea even with essien doesnt look much better than last season. with no top striker excpt crespo whom i think cant play the one striker upfront role as well as drogba, could struggle for first 2 positions. that leave man u who looks a lot stronger than us.

Man u first, chelsea and liverpool to fight for second

World Club Cup - final or win

Only 2 matches to play. the semi finals opposition doesnt look too strong. with preparation, think we can win this. south american teams and african teams having sold much of their best players will oppose slight threat.

I agree with Eurochamps05.  I feel we cannot repeat our Champions League success, because last year, we were underestimated.  This year.  Europe knows what we can do.

FA Cup: Finalists

Carling Cup: Semi-finalists

Super cup: WIN

World-club: Reserves win it ;D

Champions league: Semi-finalists

Premier League: 4th, but much closer to the top 3 than 5th. In other words, ~20 points off first place.

That's close to my thinking. Perhaps 2nd place in PL, but within 15 points is decent progress. Not sure what our squad strength will be like for WCC in Japan either.

See your point but Chelsea didn't underestimate us. Neither did Milan.

We have some better players sucha as Reina and Zenden now (over say Dudek/Smicer) plus Morientes will be eligible, Cisse's back and we have different options with Crouch. Perhaps we were a shock to Juve but they had the second leg, Chelsea had two legs and Milan had 120mins.

If all them teams underestimated us last year then they'll never year. We can do it again. Rafa's a brilliant manager, especially in knockout tournaments like this one.

Premiership- 3rd
I feel that we'll bridge the 37 point gap on Chelsea and with all the shit surrounding United, I reckon we'll finish above them. In my eyes, Rafa has made some astute buys with Premiership experience and Reina seems to have something about him between the sticks. Hamann and Sissoko provide excellent cover in the middle of the park and we are well on the way to having 2 quality players in each position. Crouch and Cisse also look to be forming a decent partnership in the games I've seen them. The areas for concern are obviously decent back up for Carra and Sami and getting some balance on the right hand side.

Champions League- Quarter Finals
After the farce of making us start with the minnows, I think we might just end up running out of steam as the tournament reaches boiling point.

FA Cup- Winners
I think that after last season's shambolic 3rd round exit, Rafa will be determined to do well in this competition and will view it as an oppurtunity to bring the Rafalution to the domestic game. If we win this, I think it will give us some decent status within the domestic game and will be a good platform for a title challenge the following season.

League Cup- 4th round
Last on Rafa's list of priorities and I think he'll stick with the kids in this tournament. We'll make it through the 3rd round though but the 4th will be a bridge too far though.

World Club Championships- Pull out
Not a priority due to potential fixture congestion.

Super Cup- Winners
I'd say it's about 70:30 in our favour and would be a good oppurtunity to build on our Euopean success in May. Would also be sweet to annhilate Roman's B Team.

Player Of The Year: Carra
One To Watch: Stevie Warnock
Young Player To Make An Impact: Darren Potter
Top Scorer: Djibril Cisse (20-25)

I reckon if this were to happen it would be good progress under Rafa, a decent season and a signal of intent that the Rafalution is the real deal. You heard it here first.

Prem - 2nd/3rd    This season we will consolidate the solid progress weve made under benitez then next season we will really go for it.

Champs League - QF   We may run out of steam as we will be playing a lot of competitive games, plus our focus will be primarily fixed on winning the title.

Super Cup - WINNERS - need i say more

League Cup - Winners    Nice chance of an early trophy as were one of the only clubs who take it seriously

FA Cup - WINNERS - Were due to win this after Owens heroics in 2001.

World Club - Pull out due to fixture pile up

Super Cup - Win
I think people are underestimating CSKA Moscow. They look like a very good side. I think we will just win it.

Premiership - 3rd (or win)
Before last season I never cared much for omens and stuff like that , but after our Champions League win I started believing in such stuff. I think without the omens and stuff we'll come third.

But if England win the Ashes (which btw is another omen 'cause they came from 1-0 down in 1981 or something) then I will go and put 100 bucks on us to win the title.

Champions League - quarterfinal
Everyone will be out to beat us 'cause we're the champions and it will be tough to emulate last season's performances.

Carling Cup - semis
You never know what to expect in these competitions. Sometimes you go on a good run, sometimes you get knocked out early.

FA Cup - semis
Think we will come close, but not win it.

UEFA Super Cup -- Win

Premiership -- 4th

Champions League -- QF

Carling Cup -- QF

FA Cup -- Final

Having a negative day.

Exactley what I predict. An absolutley magnificent CLQF against Real or Milan. Two giants sluggin' it out only for the ref to ruin it for us.
Arsenal to get revenge for 2001 in FA cup.
QF CArling, kids done great, Man Utd had too much for them in the end.
4th League position. Very healthy 11 points behind Chelsea, four back from Ars, and 2 behind Man U.
I'd be happy with that.
