Bootleg DVD's fund terrorism, drug running and organised crime. And steal money from the talent that created the original work; don't buy 'em. Plus, they're usually crap quality.

yeah ..just download 'em ;D

I was initially impressed with the score, the introductory music was excellent. David Kelly and other ridiculous names appeared, but I was lost in the vibe. The family home was just as I'd imagined it as a kid, though the parents were younger - I think. The toothpaste factory was cleaner. I was excited by the golden ticket chase, I wanted Charlie to win, somewhere I must have guessed it wouldn't tunr out like the last film and the book because I was nervous for him, again.

The factory was great, the entrance sequence with the burning dolls - the new oompa loopa clones were very well thought out... But the songs were crap. Depps Wonka was meant to be overly Jackson. I thought not. Excellently creepy, in an asexual yet camp way. If you weren't uttely convinced of Tim Burtons presence (he way as well have signed every frame), he shoved in a little Halloween scene just to rub our noses in it.

I loved it, so did the kids, the wife thought it crap. But she was comparing it to the last film and not the book - to which this is far more faithful. I don't know if Marilyn Manson owes to Burton or vice versa - either way, it's great quirky by numbers shit that they do. I don't remember Wonka having a dad - but it gave the kids a chance to shout 'Dooku'

Excellent family fun.

It was much better than I thought it was going to be.  Certainly was impressed.  Depp was good but I don't think he played the part better than Gene Wilder though.

There's a remake of Oliver coming soon, wonder if that is gonna be any good.  There seem to be a fair few remakes coming out at present, or so it seems.

For me Depp ruined the film, don't like him as an actor in most of his films and there are many other actors that would have been great in this role
.
I was very disapointed as the rest of the cast selection was great.

Thought the original was better.

Well I thought it was really good. Loved the music to it, thought it was really catchy. And Depp as Wonka was exactly as I expected, although a little too like Jackson for comfort. Very good film all in all, although I think the bit with the boat was better in the original.

I watched it today, and thought it was pretty good.  Preferred it to the original film, as it always freaked me out that I could never place where it was set - seemed a bit Easten European to me...

Houses smell of mushy peas, cat piss, dope and (in the more extreme cases in West Yorks) ammunition.  Wives look like scarred pitbull terriers.  Children are feral, resembling hungry monkeys.  Bloke wears vests a lot.  Tracksuit bottoms.  Slippers.  Few tattoos.  Wishes he'd joined the army, pretends he was a Para.  Spends too much time wanking...

Supposed to have been Norther England, but you wouldn't have thought that with all the American accents and the prices being in dollars. Oh, and Charlie telling his Grandad to open the bar of chocolate like a "band-aid" ::)

Was the original in dollars or pounds?  I thought it was pounds but the guys at work think dollars.  I was a bit disappointed that they took the American slant on things but not surprised but I suppose all the money for the movie came from there.

I liked the original better as alot of the magic is taken away by computer generation.  Did anyone else think that for most scenes the German kid was computer generated and not real?

Took my six year old to see it yesterday.  Excellent all the way through and funny in parts too.

Weirdest part was that Violets dad in the first one became the mum in this one and visa versa with Mike TV, mum in tht efirst one and dad in the second !!!

Worth going to see and the only annoying part was the same face to each umpa lumpa !!

I went to see this today and thought it was absolutely brilliant, I thought it was much better than the original one and I thought Johnny Depp played an excellent role as Wonka. If you havent seen this film yet then alls I can say is, go and see it! It is a great film, and I hope that they realise this and bring out the film Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator which was the book that came out after the first chocolate factory book, so it makes sense to bring it to the big screen. I read an interview with Johnny Depp and he said that Tim wanted this one to be more like the book that the previous film, which is why we see more of the Wonka side of things, I cant wait for the release of the DVD, and I am looking forward to the features that might come with it. The only good thing about the original film was Gene Wilder, and I thought that the kid who played Charlie in this new film was more convincing than the older Charlie, I thought that they could have included a few of the older songs in this newer adaption, but they didnt, I was also hoping that they would show the scene in the school were they are doing the experiment and they let then kids out of school early to buy the Wonka bars and Charlie looks at them longingly in the window. Another scene they missed out was the one where Charlie goes to see him mum washing clothes, and the song that his mum sings when Charlie is going home, they are only minor changes but they were what made the first film so good in my opinion.

Ah, well what can I say. I watched the first film when I was about 6 so obviously songs like that were so special to me. And they didnt even sing the Oompa Loompa song. I think nearly every song was different to the original. :no

Did anyone else sort of "bop" around in their seat to the Umpa Lumpa songs? They're strangely entertaining and addictive.

I am just watching a behind the scenes thing of this film on ITV, so fat it has introduced all the characters and interviewed them, and it is guiding you through the film, it has been good so far but it is ending in 10 minutes. This has certainly got to be one of Burton's better films.

It is definately better than the old one, this one looks at the Willy Wonka side a lot more, and it is developed around the book rather than the old film, which is much better IMO.

Disapppointed to be honest. Suppose it's more for people who have read the book, rather than watched the previous film. Although Depp was excellent, to be fair.

Well fancy having a film based on a book which actually tells the story in the book ::)

The newer film is just extremely different to the older one. I've never read the fucking book. I wasn't claiming that the book is terrible or anything like that, I just said it's more like the book than the previous one was (or so it appears) and I didn't like it as much. Christ.

Haven't seen it yet, but already know it's going to take a lot to win me over. From what I've been told there is too much missing from the old classic. It's kind of like the remake of The Italian Job. Some things are just best left alone.

Saw it the other night, blindingly good show.....Depp marvellous as ever and hilarious delivery of lines in places.   Stilll love the Wilder version, bit of nostalgia for how things were back in the day!!!

The original is one of my favourite movies,  as is the book one of my favourite books. I even dressed up as an oompa loompa for my 21st birthday.

I really hope the remake doesn't spoil it. It doesn't come out here until the 1st of September. Which i'm greatly anticipating.

You say you havent read the book, but you know the new film has similarities? The new film contains the same songs that the old book had, and it also shows more of Wonka's life, just like the book did. Roald Dahl himself said that he didnt like the first film because of how different it was, but his wife said she loves this new remake, I think that if they make a film from a book, then they should make it as similar as possible, just my opinion though.
