It’s bizarre how this has gone from an outrageous death threat against a player to having a good night out in Dublin or Belfast. I had an opinion on this when I seen it last night about nine and I was going to post something, but its rather to sustain momentum when people get their lines cross and just post shite for the sake of it so I gave up on it. But I have had a rethink. It is a serious issue; a player lost a chance to captain his country because of these idiots. Someone was banned from the forum for making what seemed to some to be “complete bollocks” and what appeared to others as a tongue in cheek remark. I put it to you all that just nine of the twenty-six posts are relevant and the rest are either complete bollocks or tongue in cheek remarks, precisely what the user was banned for.
Robert you say you grew up with these people and you know their mentality, so that gives an authority and the final say on whether someone knows what he is talking about, don't be so sure your the only one who knows people like that. Terrorists on both sides are more concerned with drug dealing these days, some old school combatants still have ideals like Mad Dog Adair. Which is why he had his drug-dealing son kneecapped. But people like Mad Dog are on the way out. Dessie O’Hare (the Border Fox) likewise is loosing out to money hungry dealing no marks that wouldn’t know a cause if it bit them in the arse.
In my opinion,
It was a high profile publicity stunt to make their rivals aware they are still active and protective of their dealing territory and they had/have no intent on killing Lennon. The IRA made the mistake of targeting high profile individuals like the Tory party conference and Lord Mount Batten in the 70’s and 80’s and it was extremely detrimental to their cause. Which led to a few people disappearing never to be seen again. Every organisation learned by the mistakes the IRA made. The people responsible for these threats will be dealt with accordingly and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of a few punishment beatings in the next few weeks.
Jay Way. The animosity between Irish Catholics and Scottish Protestants goes back further than the famine, it started when wealthy Scottish Protestants where sent into Ireland to forcibly take over the Irish farms and sell the Irish into slavery in the name of the Queen of England (think it was Elizabeth the First)…. known as The Plantations. Years later the mass exodus during the famine was because the now loyal to the crown landowners sent all the excess wheat and grain to Britain, leaving the pool paddy’s with only diseased spuds. But your right (I think) about the football implications but the hate was always evident, regardless of Celtic or Rangers Lennon always had detractors on the grounds of his Religion , even at his former club.
