Sabbathia possibly wants no part of the downside of playing in NY. Its a baseball pressure cooker the same as it is playing in Boston. I remember 15 years ago the Yankees wined and dined Greg Maddux all over NYC in the hopes of signing what was then baseball's best pitcher. I don't begrudge them too much. And the Phils won this year, so I really can't complain. But it's annoying cause Lowe or Burnett would look nice in our pinstripes too. We just won't (can't?) pay what the Yanks are setting the market at.

I would rather we go for Lowe , not pushed on Burnett at all  rather offer Ben Sheets a 2-3 year deal . Yep he is injury prone but so is burnett .

Taxpayers beaned at Yankee stadium

It looks like taxpayers are getting hit again … at least in New York anyway. Both the Yankees and the Mets have asked the city for hundreds of millions of dollars in tax-exempt public bonds to build their new stadiums while throwing out huge deals to new players.

Now, I’m all for the free market and signing marquee players. But while they’re handing out contracts with one hand, the other one is going “brother can you spare a dime?”

The Associated Press, citing New York City’s Economic Development Corporation, said the Yankees filed a request for an additional $259 million in tax-exempt bonds and $111 million in taxable bonds to fund its new $1.3-billion stadium in the Bronx.

That’s on top of the $965 million in bonds the team has already received.

The additional cost to the public for the use of tax-exempt bonds is estimated at about $16 million–about seven million dollars less than the team will pay new free agent acquisition C.C. Sabathia who was just awarded a 7-year, $161 million dollar contract.

That’s right, while taxpayers will put up more money to build PRIVATE stadiums in the greater New York area, the Yanks broke the bank awarding the richest contract ever to a pitcher.

And they’re not the only ones borrowing and spending like a certain lame-duck President. The Mets have their hand out too asking the city for $83 million to finish their new park in Queens. This after they just awarded $37 million to former Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez, and after already receiving $615 million for their $800 million dollar park.

And, as if this just doesn’t make perfect symmetry, the company that paid millions for the naming rights to the park? Citigroup, which just got $45 billion in a tax-payer funded bailout.

Make sense? I think not.

Hitter? It's still Manny Ramirez. He's incredible and it's a shame that his antics cast a shadow over how good he really is.

Pitcher? Hard to not say CC. Durable, and a definite ace.

Have to be Alex Rodriguez if you're talking about overall skills -- hitting for power, average, fielding, baserunning -- the guy ticks all the boxes.

Unfortunately, he becomes the anti-Gerrard when it comes to big situations and usually doesn't do the business in big spots. 

As a Yankee fan, you sort of feel like you're cheering for Ashley Cole -- an absolute cock of a person, but talented nonetheless.  Except Cole has no talent and A-Rod does.

Johan has been better than CC for awhile, but I think that's gonna change now.

Johan is only 1 year older than CC. He's thrown 100 fewer innings in the bigs than Sabathia.

I strongly disagree with the comment that CC is the most overpaid pitcher in the majors. He's a hell of a pitcher, and I'd love for him to be on the Phils. But I don't think he's the best either.

Good to see the Mets (my team) have addressed the past two collapsed seasons by strengthening the bullpen by signing K-Rod. 37mill over 3 years guaranteed

Great to see him playing with Santana there. I think the mets now have a great bullpen ahead of next season. I just hope they let him play here in the Venezuelan league during winter.

No problems as I also know loads of people who hate Liverpool and that doesn't bother me either  The thing is 88m came of the wage bill this season and places need filled so it was kind of inevitable . Giambi got 25m last year so 20m for MT is a better deal . Other fans always will cry about the Yankees anyway (except their own teams when they get their bonus the Yankees pay)
