We've had a good (at least) first 11 go out and get beat by Bolton, Everton, Soton, Birmingham, Man City etc all away. This team is good enough to win. Baros and Morientes are great players. Le Tallec looks a great prospect. Finnan and Traore can both do well at fullback. Our defence will be okay... hopefully. Dudek in goals isn't particularly encouraging, but nevertheless. And I haven't seen much of Welsh, so seeing him in the team disappoints me. However, he is supposed to be a great prospect and this is how he'll gain experience. Gerrard, Owen and Carra had to start somewhere. Also we have Gerrard partnering him. Not our best team, but a team that can DEFINITELY win this game. Come on lads!

Edit: My point at the beginning of the post was meant to be that we've had better players out get beat by teams. This team may not be as good as having Cisse, Alonso, Garcia etc out there, but if we play like we did v Pompey and Charlton away, we should win it. Go at them boys!

Three at the back, wing-backs, with Le Tallec in a free role behind the two strikers. Very positive.

I dont like that team  :-\
So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Get a grip, you clowns.
Xabi can't play every single game after being out for over 3 months.
Luis G is injured.
Also, I seem to remember this formation working quite well in a certain match over in Turin...

John Welsh will be up for it, as will ALT.
I'm also hopeful Milan will get a goal today; he certainly owes us one.

I dont mind resting alonso & garcia, its just he could have chosen a better team. i hope welsh will be up for it. its pelle im worried about. and whatabout smicer, he was great when he came on, on weds

Lets hope stevie will be on form! we really need him today!!

On e-season the line up is totally screwed up

                         Dudek
Gerrard Traore Peel Hyypia Carra
   Morientes Finnan ALt Welsh
                          Baros

Now again for the "real" one (my guess)

                 Dudek

       Hyypia Carra Pele
Finnan                       Traore
          ALT      Welsh

                Gerrard

          Baros   Morientes

I'm liking it.  What a nice unpredictable formation.  Dowie certainly wont have thought of it, they're not going to know how to play us.
It's so nice when you have a full squad to choose from.

Yep, or when going forward its just the 3, with fullbacks getting forward. Played it really well against Juve. Also used it for Spurs game, but we looked a little exposed at the back. Routledge against Pellegrino should be interesting...

Agreed. Why do people have to see the glass as half empty? Finnan is in his best position, as he's great at overlapping and decent at defending. Traore can also put some brilliant crosses in, has a bit of a license to get forward and can help out defensively. Le Tallec, Morientes and Baros are three more attacking players obviously. Two strikers, and a playmaker. Added to that we've got two players controlling the game in midfield who can both get back to defend, but when we attack I believe it'll be Gerrard going forward more with Welsh sitting in defensive/centre mid. That is a lot of attacking options.

Think we should have at least had Alonso on the bench...which is where I would have left Pellegrino

Probably needed a rest but...wouldnt it be better for us in the long run to have Gerrard and Alonso playing together more in order for them to build up an understanding ???

Palace don't have a load of pace up front so the back 3 should be steady enough.

Absolutely gutted that Everton have equalised. However, we'd have taken this at the start of today. We have to win regardless. Let's just hope they get a point and not three. If it had been Birmingham equalising late, then we'd be rejoicing. Come on Liverpool (and hang on Birmingham!).

If Andy Johnson can get 19 a season from that service at Crystal Palace, that should be enough to tell you how big of a threat he is - pacey or not, he's a great player.

i like the formation for today. the overlapping fullbacks should give the defenders a hard time.

Emile Heskey, so far our player of teh day!
Could it  be possible in that formation that Pelle is playing a little in front of the defense? (Not a choice I'd make). Attacking formation, to be sure, although the middle of the park looks a little thin

Dont see much wrong with that formation, although I would have liked to see our strongest team out there, but this is not far from it. the 2 fullbacks pushing foward to help out in attack lie 2 wingers while also falling back in defence to maintain 5 at the back, with le talent playing in a free role.
