I've heard some people talk about that Sheila quote but did he really say that? Is there an article?

Benitez told Spanish paper Diario AS that he was planning to keep his captain at Anfield:

"We are preparing a special weightlifting plan for Gerrard's shoulders because we want him to lift a lot of trophies for Liverpool in the next few years."

Classic.
Raúl barely had a kick. The nearest he got to greatness was when he shook Gerrard by the hand.   Times - Mar 10,2009.

David Moores: "Will you come and  manage Liverpool FC?"

Rafa: "YES."

Pre-match press conference before Chelsea 2nd leg!

that was great, cos it was in response to some London journo twat who would NOT shut up about Queen Maureen in the LIVERPOOL press conference. It was a very ungracious way to behave in front of a very succesful  coach as Benitez - basically trying to put him in a position to say that Queenie was a better coach than him, thats what the journo wanted. He hadn't quite bargained for the response he got from Rafa. The whole dialog was along the lines of:

LondonJournoTwat: Is Maurenho the best manager in the world?

Rafa: He's one of the best.

LondonJournoTwat: But is he the best?

Rafa: He's one of the best

LondonJournoTwat: But he's not stopped winning.

Rafa: Until tomorrow

LondonJournoTwat: ***speechless***
"Stay humble. Work harder than the other team every game, and work harder in practice. Take nothing for granted, especially on a day like today. How could you? It’s a gift to be playing in this league, a gift to walk the planet. So you know what, leave it on the ice every single night and let the results take care of themselves"

the one i love is when he was explaining that he bought his wife a watch whenever she got a prediction right about him winning the a cup.

"My wife has a lot of confidence and a lot of watches!" fuckin' priceless.

The other thing I buzz off is when an interviewer at the beginning of a post match interview says something like "Rafa congratulations on beating Chelsea...or congratulations on winning the Champions League" going on to ask him something like "did the substitution change the game..." or whatever - Rafa ALWAYS starts by saying "Thank You." and then answers the question.

Quality, makes me piss every time.

After the final:

"maybe if we a score it will be different, and we a score and was different"

I love the way he adds some unnecessary words, but then misses some out. Legend.

I'm a big fan of the way he never used the ling injury list excuse that he would've had every right to use (and which was used too frequently by his predecessor).  Instead after one bad spell he simply said:

"If we want no criticism then we must work harder to ensure we don't deserve it"

THAT´S a beauty  ;D ;D

Just watching the pre-Chelsea press conference again and he came out with another classic!

Journo: Are you wearing your lucky jacket?

Rafa: No, it's normal. I have confidence in my team, not my jacket!

Same interview, same journo: Do you think the neutrals will be behind Liverpool?

Rafa: If we have our own fans it will be enough!

Love it!

LOL, remember reading that. Gonna nick it for me sig elswhere :D I's great. It was after VCF battered then for 180 mins in the CL quarter final, and went out on the away goal. Inter just put 11 behind the ball for the whole 2nd leg more or less I think and refused to play any football :D

FURNITURE METAPHORS LAND POOL BOSS IN HOT WATER

The new Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez, has angered furniture retailers with his comment that “If you have a table with four legs and they are good legs then you do not need another leg.”

The Furniture Retailers Association has released a statement claiming that, “of course you need another leg. You can always use more furniture. Mr Benitez should stick to coaching footballers and stop advising on interior design.”

The coach has previously angered Spanish lighting retailers by complaining that when he asked Valencia bosses “for a sofa they gave me a lamp.”

that was great, cos it was in response to some London journo twat who would NOT shut up about Queen Maureen in the LIVERPOOL press conference. It was a very ungracious way to behave in front of a very succesful  coach as Benitez - basically trying to put him in a position to say that Queenie was a better coach than him, thats what the journo wanted. That was a definitely class!

I like the phrase he answers everything with "we have more possibilities"

My favorite was when he was getting questioned after the Everton game (i think it was) and asked about the striker situation with Baros suspended, Nando unfit and hurting, Cisse, Flo and Mellor all injuried. Forgive me for i dont know his exact words.. But he mentioned that he would have to suit up and play striker in the next game. I thought that for showed that despite all the injuries to key players while other managers were complaining, he still had enough humor to make fun of the situation.
