You're farkin kiddin me?! Shite!

Glad it's on a monthly contract then... Who should I go with instead for 24/7 full whack speeds uncapped?

After a lot of research today, mainly on www.adslguide.org forums, I've cancelled F2S, and once I've heard back off PlusNet about a new MAC code, think I'll be off to Zen. I can only get 1024kbps anyway, so the decision's easy.

I think the heavy downloader's time (that'll be me for one, 30-80 gig a month) will soon be over, at least for a while, unless LLU turns out to be a revelation.

I tend to agree Big G that the time of unshaped, uncapped connections is ending, partly through economics and partly through some users downloading more than seems feasible now that faster speeds are available

The theoretical maximum bandwidth a user needs is based on how quickly they can whack off to the porn they've just downloded.  Not quite sure how this works in a shared household....

Naive way of looking at it nowadays... More and more people are using broadband and P2P for their all-around entertainment needs. I have a 1Mbps connection, and am using it most of the time for downloading US and UK TV shows and documentaries, and watching streaming sports and news, which I watch almost exclusively - i.e. watch about 1 hour of TV a week, as with broadband I am in control of my viewing.

It'll only take one or two internet-based killer-apps for the majority of people to start demanding more constant useage of bandwidth and force BT and the ISPs to finally give us what they fool us into thinking we're buying - 1:1 contention, i.e. if you're paying for 1024kpbs why can't you use its full capacity 24/7 if you so desire. The opposing argument is that if you wanted to use the full capacity you'd have to pay what the ISP pay for this - a vast amount more than £20 a month. But that'll be BT's exessive charging coming into play. Think we heavy users are in for a rough ride for a few years but it should settle down eventually. I'd gladly pay to watch Thatcher dissolve painfully in a vat of acid, but the one and only thing she had right was to try and get fibre optics installed all over the UK in the 80's.

I'm a heavy user too, although at the moment I'd argue it is difficult to saturate a line with 'legal' downloads. The new skybybroadband could change all that though.

In reality I suppose we wouldn't need more than one hdtv quality feed per member of the household in 'realtime' unless people can watch more than one thing at a time  ;D

I have got BT Yahoo Broadband, I think it's 27.99 a month or something and it's very good. It's quick, and reliable and I've got no problems with it at all, been with it for just over a year now and have got no plans to change. Anyone I talk to about AOL says it's shit and that they have got nothing but problems, but there is loads of providers now so it's hard to decide.

Anno, I had a problem signing into the Internet not long after we got it. So I was passed on from caller to caller, and eventually had to phone a friend to come round and sort it. The Yahoo Help Feature is shit as well.

I'm thinking of going with 'be unlimited'.... I've read the reviews on thinkbroadband.com and they seem to be ok....anyone tell me otherwise?  (£24 a month).

I can't get over people that leave a good provider to gamble £5 cheaper a month to get better value.  If it ain't broken, for the sake of a fiver or even a tenner, don't fix it.

Cheers!

if i were to change, I'd go with Orange

their 20 quid a month broadband package comes with a voip phone service

able to ring in UK, and top 30 countries in the world for free, as part of that deal

cousin has it....excellent.

i was staying at  his house last week....and used his laptop every day....the connection was far faster than my own

I've been impressed with them so far in the 6 months I've been with them, although obviously whether they're worth it for you depends on if you're close enough to the exchange to benefit from the higher potential speeds

Virgin XL -20Mb/sec...All phone calls, all telly (bar Sky Sports/Sky Movies) = £66 a month...and the broadband has broke down about 3 times in 10 years...I can't fault it. (The telly could be better, though).

Cant believe ive been with Tiscali for a few years, bunch of c*nts. Was looking at getting 02 but just noticed that Skys max package (16mb) comes without a fair usage policy. To good to be true or is it the real deal? I'm a very heavy user so this fair usage policy bollocks is a nightmare.

I was with Tiscali for too long as well and their definition of 'fair' wasn't similar to mine shall we say. Do you have to be with Sky to have their broadband?

Was on the gadget show, were they were asking ISPs why say unlimited if its not. SKY agreed with them and took the FUP off the max package after the interview with them. Think its the only major provider without one.

Be have never enforced their FUP as far as I'm aware, I've probably got close to 200 gig of usage over the last month without a problem, I believe much the same applies to O2.

All explained here http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyproducts/broadband/pricesandoptions/max

Torn between getting 02 and Sky, guess its safer to go with Sky in case 02 start enforcing their FUP as they get an increase in customers. They seem very popular at the moment.

If anything I'd say there is more chance of Sky adding a fair usage clause in and enforcing theirs.
