song of the year
« on: December 23, 2004, 09:35:24 AM »
sure this has probably been started somewhere else but i couldn't find it anywhere so here goes with what i reckon the best records of the year have been:

1. green day - american idiot. (just has to be turned up loud. no matter how many times i hear it i never get bored of it)
2. u2 - vertigo. (i'm sure they've got better songs on their new album but i haven't heard it yet. expecting the album for xmas. loved vertigo the first time i heard it)
3. snow patrol - run (great to sing along to. hope to catch them live soon. watched their show from somerset house on tv the other week and it looked pretty good)
4. embrace - gravity (great comeback. great when i saw them live in norwich)
5. ash - clones (probably the heaviest track they've ever done. quality album)

hard to choose a top 5 really with all the good tracks that we've had this year. seems a shame to leave out songs by razorlight, killers, franz ferdinand etc etc....

not been a bad year for music i suppose....nx year should be better though.....u2 to play live....and new albums expected from the likes of coldplay, oasis and the foo fighters. ;D

Great choices, but I have to add 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams'.

Run is quality

Can't believe I'm about to say this, but Natasha Bedingfield's These Words is brilliant as well

Seconded...never bought more than  a few singles in the past (Basket Case on snot-green vinyl I think) but it's a superb track-and thanks to Paul T for sending it a while back

Pedantic but very possibly right. I remember seeing Franz Ferdinand on telly not long after they really broke - March in Sofia. Might just have been released the other side - must have been close. Either way apparently you have to argue with VH2 as well as me ;)

Just a bit?!  ;)

In no particular order:

The Killers 'Mr. Brightside'
Kings of Leon 'The Bucket'
Blink 182 'I Miss You'
The Zutons 'Confusion'
Scissor Sisters 'Take Your Mama'
Gwen Stefani 'What You Waiting For?'
Deep Dish 'Flashdance' (or should there be a seperate thread for tunes of the year?!)
Shapeshifters 'Lola's Theme'
The Streets 'Dry Your Eyes'

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Released Song of the Year for me  between "Irish Blood English Heart " by Moz  & "Bridging the Gap" by Nas.

The world's greatest band have released nowt this year but they have done various BBC sessions
featuring new material - go to www.hmhb.co.uk  click on Sessions+ scroll down to the  andy Kershaw session, click on 26th September  and the song of the year is between "Corgi registered Friends"  and "Mate of the Bloke who set up the PA".
