Thats the one. 40 odd seconds into the second half. Completely missed it when trying to pass/head back to keeper

Good spot that one Stoz, but can you remember how long it took for the ball to go into the net after the last player touched it? ;)

Just home... quite content really. Bit of a dead game but it can be expected given the date and time of the match, we did enough to lift spirits though and I don't mean a bottle of whisky.

Baros was superb... Alonso fucking immensical (and I don't care if that's not a word)... and I hope Stevie takes the "what the fucking hell was that?" as a bit of a joke. Was looking to see his reaction but couldn't make it out. Bowyer's foul on Pongo should have been a straight red anyway.

All in all a good days work. Cheers Titus!

On TV SG8 seemed to hav a laff!
Didnt hear the crowd after on tv, but he seemed to be a bit calmer in his head today.

Bowyer should've gone earlier for the elbow on Kewell right in front of the Kemlyn.Nasty little c*nt  :upyours That liinesman on our side was useless too, he was getting loads of shit and rightly so, he was constantly behind play, didn't see the elbow yet we all did and missed the handball in the second half.

Happy with the performance, great to see us come back so quickly from going a goal behind, (Bramble OG?, thought Sami didn't celebrate much), let's keep it going now boys.

Good solid team performance today.  Particularly pleased with Baros and Alonso.  Mellor also played very well in the first half, held the ball up and spread the play well on 2 or 3 occasions.

Atmosphere was decent I thought, far better than Portsmouth game. Also just a mention for Dudek- played well, great save from Robert to prevent a scary last 10 minutes.

Didn't think much of the Kop AGAIN today. Most of the noise comes from the back right (202 ?). People who go on the Kop and don't sing need to take a look at themselves, realise where they are and generate some noise...

I don't think we have worry about Newcastle for that 4th CL place.

Kluivert should have been ruled offside. Bollocks to that phase business.

Baros played well. Kewell made some good contributions. Chuffed for Mellor.

no... eactly that phase business... Kluivert scored in the same phase - if that's notbthe case then from now on we need to keep Mellor offside but near the touchline all game until we are running clean through, then he darts in and scores

Really pleased with the result and I'm glad to see Mellor getting a good run in the team.

Like has been said, our next game against West Brom is a good chance to move up the table and put our poor away form to bed.  Home games against Southampton and Chelsea will hopefully bring some reward.  Happy Christmas everybody!

Forgot to mention that save!

Deffo Tuesday has sharpened JD up, good save today after again having bogall to do for 90 mins.

Great to hear the Harry song again, has been a great improvement over the past month, nice to see the fans recognise that past coupleagames.

What set the scene for me was, from our first attack, Kewell picked up the ball on the halfway line, took his man on and beat him and caused a problem out wide str8 away - thats what we wanna see from him

An odd lazy moment from him but otherwise decent performance, great turn and through-ball for Baros' goal.

Good to see the mentality is still great, coming back after a dodgy decision and scoring 3 (shouldve been more)

Mellor & Baros looked good upfront, they compliment each other pretty well and were rewarded with a goal each

Bring on the Brom!  :wave

Exactly. Someone should do that.

And the ball passed by Kluivert. If he'd been out wide and nowhere near the play, fair enough.

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!

Thought he was outstanding today. Worked really hard and tore at newcastle's defence right from the off. The way he shrugged off bernard (who's very quick) to set up Garcia deserved a goal, but maybe next time he'll get one.

That overhead kick attempt was class as well and would have been one of the favourites for goal of the season.

He workes so much better with a strike partner to work off. And especially one who is going to stay in and around the box like mellor did today. The way he turned elliot for mellors goal showed his strength and the little pass through showed that when he has players around him moving into space he will pick his head up and find them out.

His goal (after a great turn and pass from kewell) was class as well and showed everyone who didnt see Euro 2004 the kind of ability he's got in front of goal. Top class Milan, and here's hoping when playing with a strike partner like Morientes (prays) he and we will be even more deadly.

Come on you red men.

Other players:

Kewell worked harder again today. Still dont think he did much other than the goal assist. He seemed to do a little move to get away from a plyer, then either pass it, or run it into one of their players. But more positive and improving bit by bit all the time. He's getting stuck again and as such will get a lot more support from people.

Garcia: Glad to have him back as he offers that something different. He did a little flick today and took it away from their player. Something you dont see a lot of players try. He'll look a lot sharper when he is fully fit, but should have buried that chance early on.

Nunez: looked good when he came on, still raw and unfit, but getting better,. did well to pick out harry all alone late on, but harry should have done better. Will look even more dangerous with two up front to aim at, especially if one of them is staying in the box.

Alonso and Gerrard: maybe trying to out do each othjer with some of the longer range passes, but looked promising and something to build on. I think we look so much better with 442 than the kind of 451 we have been playing recently. Benitez used a 4-2-3-1 at valencia and i think for that to work at liverpool we need an aimar type player to play behind a striker and have gerrard and alonso in midfield controlling things. If we do it that way then it can work imho, but not in the way we have been playing it.

All in all a good days work and made all the sweeter sitting in my geordie mates living room watching it. He ended up saying that if liverpool were going to dive all game (?????? he hasnt got a clue) then he would send his team out to kick our players to death. Typical fan who knows his team has been beaten by the better side.

Well done red men

How good is Xabi Alonso?

If Stevie is our heart, Xabi is our brain.

He was involved in everything today. Everytime he got the ball (which was almost every LFC move) I was amazed with what he produced. His passing ability is just absolutely sublime.  His awareness of the position of his team mates is superb. He rarely lost possession. When fouled he just got up and got on with it - no temper at all. And who says he and Stevie cant play together?

Wasnt shite thats probably a bit harsh, but yeah from the first min he didnt look comfortable at all with the game. He did make a few gd clearances in the box, though

But did you notice that there were more players playing well than players who werent? Much much better than having a couple of players carrying the rest of the team

A workman-like performance I suppose you could say.  We never got out of second gear for most of the match, probably because we didn't need to.

First half, I though we were too narrow and Garcia and Kewell struggled.

Sammi H looked about as decisive as Igor at the back today. :-\  Is this a sign that he struggles (esp. pace-wise) when he has not got Hamann guarding him?

HK was his usual mix, half good - half v. bad.  to be honest except for the goal he was short on ideas and made many unforced errors.  Hey ho...

In a way it was nice to say that SG was not man-of-the-match for once. :wave

Good performance, our atmosphere a bit flat at times tho was sat right above the Geordie bastards in the Anny Road end. Thought when Gerrard took it right off of Xabi's toe when he was gonna shoot in the second half he was greedy, but then again, i'm looking for negatives here. Newcastle were very very poor and i think they may be looking at a relegation fight if they dont improve soon!

:) I´m very pleased with today´s performance, it´s a well deserved win over a poor Newcastle side.
Especially Baros, Alonso and Kewell did very well´;
Riise gave a solid performance, as always, and so did Finnan. Hyypiä will hopefully find a way out from his insecure play;
The combination Baros-Mellor which lead to the second goal was absolutely brilliant!
Baros was so desperate to make a goal that he finally made it, well done!
And Gerrard?  After the final whistle he didn´t look confident. I think he expects to much from himself, puts himself under to much pressure.
