As a total by the by, and so forth...
...there was an article in the daily mail suggesting that a "group" who were keen on taking control of Liverpool had "equal spending power to Abramovich" which makes me think...
Would you actually want to have someone with so much money taking control of LFC, wouldn't it ruin the club, turn us into something we (certainly I) don't want. I appreciate that winning the league with 11 scousers who cost us nothing is unlikely, but it would be nice to make our way to the top on merit, rather than cash.
Same thing was brought up on YNWA although it was talking about hollow wins and how we would feel.
I think it depends on what the money is used for.
If it's to build a team for now by outbidding everyone else without looking at the long term picture and not ensuring that, should the money dry up, the club is a self sustaining entity that could survive in the long run without a billionaire then yeah, it is fairly hollow. You'd still take it in the short term but that nagging feeling of 'what if' would always linger.
If however you spent 200 million on a structure that bred the success through improved facilities, scouting, academy and the purchase of players at a sensible level as well as making sure the long term suture of the club was secure then no, it wouldn't be hollow and I'dfeel a lot more comfortable.
