Liverpool v Middlesbrough - team news and in-game comments
« on: November 10, 2004, 07:17:28 pm »
Rafael Benitez has stuck to his word and handed Academy graduates Neil Mellor, Darren Potter, Stephen Warnock and Zak Whitbread another chance to shine in tonight's Carling Cup 4th round tie at home to Middlesbrough.

There are also places on the bench for John Welsh, Richie Partridge and David Raven, as the Liverpool boss names a youthful squad for the visit of the holders.

Team in full: Dudek (captain), Finnan, Traore, Henchoz, Whitbread, Diao, Biscan, Warnock, Potter, Mellor, Pongolle. Subs - Luzi, Riise, Raven, Welsh, Partridge

Would have liked to have seen Welsh start :(.  Is he just back from his injury or has he played since?

Boro's side, while not full-strength, looks a fair bit more experienced than ours, but definitely beatable.

I believe that, whilst Boro look a far better side than Millwall, our youngsters and fringe players will be boosted by that away win and will put out a good showing at Anfield tonight. I think the Boro team looks well takeable ... come on you mighty redmen!

They look beatable - but there are a few experienced players in that lot
a good performance from a couple of our reserves could be the springboard they need to push into 1st team squad
Come on you reds

Ave just got up and had a dream (not while I was up) that it was 1-1 and went to penalties, Warnock scored the winning penno :D hope the Kop sings their hearts and lungs out, in memory of crazy horse.

I like the look of Downing for Boro when I've seen him this season - very good on the left flank. He could cause a problem.

Minute's silence about to start for Emlyn...

Just had another great run, shot was saved, Sinama followed up, was blocked, warnock followed, up was blocked, Mellor should have scored header but just missed!
