Just got from the 8 bells what a blinding day. We were shit in the 1st half and so were Fulham the only difference was two of their midfielders didn't carelessly give the ball like Diao and Garcia. Once Alonso came on and Diao went off in the 2nd half we were a different side and played Fulham off of the park. I'd single Xabi Alonso, Milan Baros and Jamie Carragher out for special praise. What a goal from Igor and what a fantastic atmosphere for the 2nd half da da da da da der!

and as for the second one, well you must have had your glasses off as Boa morte shot from the edge of the box and quite frankly if kirkland had better reflexes he would have had his legs closed pronto. I don't remember people being quite as forgving when dudek let in that goal against bayer between his legs.....

For certain players it would seem that the sun shines out of their ass holes!

EAV - stop posting the kind of tripe you expect from a muppet.

Kirkland had no chance. In fact, Trevor Francis said on the Sky commentary: "Kirkland had no chance".

He was out to narrow the angle, which he did perfectly. It went through his legs - try closing your legs when someone six yards away fires a shot at 70mph.

Any keeper will say that a shot struck hard and low is the hardest to save. Any striker will know that it's one of the easiest ways to score.

If we could stop fucking-well blaming our own players when they weren't even at fault, that would a start.  >:(

Agree. Having played in goal to a half(ish) decent standard I can confirm that a shot between your legs (hard to make this point without it sounding like inuendo - its not meant to) is a nightmare to get to. A shot to a couple of feet either side of you can be stopped fairly effectively with your feet, wider than this its a nightmare again, you dont have time to get down that low. But aimed between your legs youvre got almost no chance.

Of course, Kirkland could have stood there with his legs together, like a tree...  :butt

Exactly. You make yourself as big a target as possible, a wide stance is part of this. Also, you aim to be able to move as far in either direction as possible. In order to do this you must have your feet apart to give yourself the leverage to push off either left or right. A keeper must weigh up the likelihood of a shot being anywhere but between his legs against having to move for it. Most of the time you have to move, on the few occasions its aimed between your heels you can do nothing about it and fools criticise you.

And I would suspect it is harder for a keeper who is about 6ft 4inches compared to someone who is about dudek's height.

Yep. The lad has to move his feet a greater distance to get his heels together.

I think EAV has allowed us to detract from the most important fact, the lads have done very well after a shaky start and we've hopefully knocked on the head the stories about us being unable to play away from home.

It was an awesome game and atmosphere was cracking (though fulham need to extend there Vocal Bibliography to more than "Come on Fulham")

Hopefully we can carry this atmosphere back to anfield!!

One of the most impressive thing for me today......

With 90 mins up and us down to ten men, we still had two out and out strikers on the pitch, even when we were 3-2 up. Think a lot of managers would have battoned down the hatches once ahead. Fair play to Rafa for keeping us on the front foot. It paid off in the end as we had enough players on a break to create a scoring opportunity for Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooor :D

Without trying to turn this into yet another transfer speculation thread- we could do a lot worse than buy Malbranque. Yes we haven't seen Nunez yet, but his flair and eye for a dead ball situation, with the fact he wouldn't need to adjust to Premiership life, would make him a  tidy purchase

Always amazes me when people bring up some bizarre and obscure comparison from yonks ago, as if to suggest that single incident was a defining moment in time.

We just won 4-2. To quote the legendary Robin Williams line from Good Morning Vietnam - EAV you are more in need of a blowjob than any other man in the history of the world.

if gobshites got off traores back and got behind him,who knows how good he could be? he has never let us down at centre half, and always looks uncomfortable at left back, anyone can see that.personally the way sami has been playing lately,i`d consider traore at centre back with carra.

Bond between supporters and players looked back again today. They looked like they wanted to do it for us. That shite first half was probably a good thing for us, because to come back and win from that adversity has given this match extra importance and the club an extra lift. Was great to see players reactions at the end and with the goals.

Players who looked particularly made up were Riise, Carra, Milan and Xabi all really stirring us up in the end with clenched fist punching the air. Cisse last off the pitch.... you gotta laugh, what a poser! ;D But fair play he's a character to say the least.  Buzzin now and if you thought ring of fire had started to take off at previous games, well today it was finally fully unveiled, whole away end bouncing to it and most of us bouncing back to the 8 bells after the game to it.

Good stuff.

Caught a glimpse of the Dude giving Igor a congratulary pat on the back at the end, with a big smile on his face too. Good to see that from a player who's future at the club must be in doubt now Kirkland is starting. Spirit in the squad must be good.

Home now. Exhilerated, drained, cold ( bloody hell what is it like there in January?).

Think Igor was just trying to get rid of the ball, he had that please don't pass the fecker back to me again look ( well Im guessing).

To continue with my "I love Josemi but he is a bit slow and needs to lose a little excess off his A*se -  funniest moment, in fact only moment of the first half was when he set off at a fantastic pace up the field, yelling for the ball.  Unfortunately he reminded me of a gawky 6 year old the way he runs swinging from side to side.  His face when he realised he had used up three quarters of his engine for a run that noone on the team noticed was funny.

Cisse last off the pitch again, gave his shirt away.  Nice sleeveless vests they were wearing underneath the kit too.

One other observation, when Alonso was warming up, he was really watchig the game - clenchign his fists and grimacing when we messed up. A lot of players tend to ignore or watch in a very detached way

It wasn't cold.

More useleess info: Fulham and Chelsea must share some of the stewards, as the same woman who was sat in front of us in front of the pitch of the pitch at Chelsea was down the "river" side of the away end.

Watched the match on Football First:

Didn't think we were that bad first half, we were not good by any stretch of the imagination, but not awful either.

Similarly the 2nd half wasn't amazing, good yes, but not amazing.

My thoughts are that some people are looking for extremes when they are not there.

We beat a decent team away from home with 10 men for 15 minutes. Simple fact, simple conclusion, good result.

The main result from today was that we have psychologically overcome a hurdle, and that is what the next few month of Rafa's reign are about. IMO. Sod the individuals (bar Igor of course), as a team we did good!  :)

Now lets twat these Corunian bastards!
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

After watching the full game on Sky, I didn't think we were THAT bad in the first half. It wasn't great by any means and we didn't create any particularly good chances but I was expecting to see worse. Similarly, in the second half, I was expecting a much better performance I saw. Luck was definitely with us today but either way, scoring four goals in 45 minutes is impressive by anyone's standards.

Kirkland - 6 - Didn't do anything wrong with the two goals, neither of them I thought he should have saved. Didn't make any mistakes either during the rest of the game and again, it's pleasing to see him come for crosses.

Traore - 6 - Djimi had quite a decent game I thought. Nothing to write home about but defended well enough and got forward a few times. He showed again though that he's certainly come on a lot from the clumsy oaf that he was 2+ years ago. Unfortunately, current performances aren't changing many people's opinion of him.

Hyypia - 7 - I thought he had quite a good game actually. He made plenty of interceptions, blocks and clearances and would have been a higher mark if it wasn't for their two goals. The problem with them was Boa Morte was just too fast for him. Maybe his positioning could be called into question but if he's out paced by a striker, it's not really his fault. It means we need someone with pace there but he did play well today apart from as I said, the two goals which I'm not sure he could have done a great deal about.

Carragher - 8 - Typical Carragher really. He really has come on leaps and bounds in my opinion over the last few seasons. Not only does he give you 100% as you would expect, he's just become an all round very good defender. Excellent game.

Josemi - 5 - Thought he struggled with Boa Morte a lot all game, committed about a dozen fouls and of course got sent off. Not a great day's work for a defender really.

Riise - 6 - I didn't think he had a particularly bad game but seeing as he was playing in midfield, you expect him to be more of a threat going forward. Didn't really cause them too much problems. Kind of confirmed what I've always thought and that he doesn't have what it takes to be a quality winger. His passing isn't good enough nor is he creative enough. Anyway, didn't do much wrong but not involved enough for my liking. Playing him isn't going to help matters in a creative sense, considering our problem with shots on goal in away games.

Hamann - 6 - He's another one for me who just let the game pass him by. I know his best work often goes unnoticed but most Liverpool supporters now can see when he's having an effect on the game. Didn't seem to break up much of their play and didn't get on the ball much.

Diao - 4 - Poor game. I don't want to go over the top with the criticism of him as I didn't think he was THAT bad but I really am struggling to see a future with him in a red shirt to be honest. His passing was poor, his tackles just ended up giving them free kicks and of course, that flick he tried resulted in their first goal. To be fair, although I gave him a '4' he didn't get the chance to improve on that in the second half. Everyone else did. Still, he just offered us absolutely nothing.

Xabi Alonso - 8 - The fact that the game changed so much when he came on is testament to the influence he had on the game. His passing looked a cut above as per usual, he played a key part in Baros' goal and of course scored from a free kick. Excellent game.

Luis Garcia - 6 - Didn't really have too good a game either I thought. His all round play wasn't what you expect from him and he seemed to give the ball away a fair bit. On the plus side though, it was his header that eventualyl found its way to Baros after the keeper had saved it and it was after he was fouled, that Xabi Alonso scored from the free kick. He didn't really do much else though.

Baros - 8 - I thought he was very impressive today. Gave 100% all game and just never stopped running. He caused them plenty of problems down the channels with his running, played a part in the first goal and of course reacted excellently to score his own.

Cissé - 7 - I thought, again, that this was another promising performance from Djibril. Okay, he didn't score but his overall game and the way he linked up with the rest of the team was a definite cause for optimism, for me anyway. Showed a few good touches and did make a nuisance of himself from time to time. Set up Alonso for what should have been a simple tap in and played a part in Biscan's goal. Still waiting for him to really 'come alive' and start producing what he's capable of, mainly scoring and causing opposition defences more problems but you can already see him contributing more during the 90 minutes.

---

Warnock - Not enough time to judge him really but of course linked up excellent with Biscan for our 4th.

Biscan - What can you say, he scored within 20 seconds of coming on with his second touch. Very pleased to see him score.

To be honest second half was one of the better atmospheres for a while.

Id like to bring up the point of team spirit for a moment, and ask you to cast your minds back to the Houllier era, games like todays we would have either drawn or lost after going 2-0 down...

I cant remember a time in the last few years when weve over turned such a deficit...

I feel its the start of something big, Viva Benitez my friends...

Great result today, mighty Igor
