Ok we have the teamline-up but is that a 5-4-1 about to be fielded or what? Three centre backs possibly? Or is this a spin on a five man midfield?

Carra will play at centre back.  Traore is in because he has moved Riise upfield I think.

I'm not overly suprised.

Rafa has said all the players will get a chance and he wasn't afraid to mix it up a bit at Valencia no matter the opposition.

But equally has had some shocking games in a red shirt.  Very fast and a good tackler, but he is one of those players who make you shit yourself when he gets the ball.

As for Daio I've never for one minute thought he is good enough.

Diao has seemed functional when playing in def mid, but certainly doesn't have didi's brain.

I'd suggest that he's in because of Rafa's request for aggression and to provide a bit of presence in midifeld.

Whether he can channel it is another thing...

Rafa has said he make use of the whole squad this season. I dont think its a bad idea to drop hamann for this game. Purely because the pace of the game is alot slower from our point of view when he plays.

If needed, he can then come of the bench to sure things up.

Im quite happy with that team.

Who mentioned lightening pace and who mentioned attack?

He'll provide more mobility in midfield end of story, oh and the Kewell comment is nonsense to.

Yeah but he hasn't really played under Rafa.  Dont get me wrong I hope he plays a stormer today, but I've been happy with Riise's performances at left back this season.

Traore is better in the centre though not at left back. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Diao might just add a bit of muscle, bit more strength. I remember seeing have a good game against Spurs a few seasons ago...about due another.

If Riise pushes up to left wing though where does that leave Harry? Right side with Garcia in the usual supporting role?

Dammit i need some alcohol now!

Riise has been superb this year at left back, but Djimi is more than capable of doing a job at left back. I wouldn't have done it meself. I'd have kept the Riise/Warnock down the left but have no problems with him playing Djimi or Salif for that matter.

I think Diao is ahead of Hamann to add more agression & mobility to the midfield.  As for Traore - his extra height (ahead of warnock - Riise moving into midfield) should help at set-pieces.  Nice to see Harry in what I think is his best position - just off a striker.

I was just coming on here to say about how I felt we'd do really well today - I don't fear Chelsea too much as they don't have as much pace and as many dangermen as Man U, for example. They get results by being compact, not from attack after attack. They have good players, but they don't scare me as much.

However, having seen our team sheet I'm a *little* more cautious - I'm not saying Rafa has got it wrong, just that it was a surprise, and Diao has never looked good enough to me in the past (but I hope to be proved wrong). Traore can be brilliant or awful - but like Diao, he deserves to be viewed with a clean slate under a new manager, playing a new brand of football in a new system.

At least we'll have fresher legs, and Diao can do the running in midfield that Alonso and Hamann couldn't.

Spanish Red was right about Kirkland and Kewell up front just behind Cisse.

Will be intresting to see how JAR does left mid..... he has been improving every game at left back, and lloking slowly and slowly more like the player he was in the first season. It would be nice to see him grab a goal today.

I knew there was a reason I never watched the build up to a game ( I usually turn over in time for kick off) and Richard Keys just reminded me (the twat).

"Liverpool have won only once in 14 games at the bridge and prior to last season lost 7 in a row".

Now I'm off to be sick.

Agreed, Lets hope JAR can maybe get a goal today from left midfield, hes been short in that department but all other areas of his game have much improved  :) Think Diao may have been brought in as you say to give us a bit of muscle in that area, rafa did indicate on tues that we need to be stronger in midfield. I also think Harry is need of a big performance today and shut those cockney twats up.

Key Points on selection:

Traore gives us more pace at the back, and more height for set pieces (as does Kirkland).

Riise and Diao give us more pace in midfield. Diao also gives us more height for - you guessed it - set pieces (being far better in the air than Hamann).

Riise and Traore give our left hand side a solid look - Warnock could do the same at left-mid, but Riise has goals in his locker (even if hidden at the bottom under an old sweaty towel).

It actually looks a better balanced team in many ways (certainly height and pace), but with a couple of "lesser" players in the side.
