Was it you that recommended "Brass" to me, saph? Might have been quite a while ago? Anyway, that should be arriving in a few days, so that's next on the list of the books I need to read.

Finished 'High Society' by Ben Elton.

After reading 'Popcorn' by the same author I was expecting a very good read.  I was not disappointed.  It's fiction but I think it's probably truer than reality.  Elton's very sharp, can be funny and most of all truly ironic.  The characters are great but probably the situations and his digs at society are even better.

Would defenitely recommend it to anyone.

At the moment I am reading Kafka's 'The Trial'.

I've read "Dead Famous" by Ben Elton. It's kinda a murder mystery type thing based in a reality TV setting. Sounds a bit far fetched, but it's well written and quite funny in parts. He's basically taking the piss out of the public's obsession with reality TV. Good read.

Most of his work is a criticial and ironic piss take of today society's hypocrisy.

Dead Famous is good, got persuaded to read it a couple of years ago - in fact I think I got given it but ex still had it when we split up ;D

Dunno what I last read, it's ages since I've read something I really enjoyed. If I haven't mentioned them on here already, I'd recommend Brazil: Life, Blood, Soul by John Malathronas, and Hokkaido Highway Blues by Will Ferguson.

Started "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" last night. It kept me awake for hours because I didnt want to stop reading. Really enjoying it so far. It's funny in a strange kind of way. Very good. Would recommend this one. :wave

Finished this a couple of nights ago. Excellent book. Would definately recommend it to anyone! One of the best books I've read in quite a while.

Mr Claw, it certainly is! When I first started reading the book there were some parts that were really funny, then it turned a bit sad but was really heart-warming when he manages to make the whole journey on his own. I've already made my mates buy a copy of the book to read!

I've done the same- it seems to have spread by word of mouth, we were chatting in work and it turned out four of us were reading it at the same time. Just hoping they don't try to film it  :butt

No book is safe, however 'unfilmable' at first, second and indeed thirty-seventh look- remember Cronenberg trying to film 'Naked Lunch'

Beginning the year with a Dean Koontz double-header. Finished The House of Thunder the other day and now reading The Taking. House of Thunder was alright, but I found it a bit laboured compared to some of his other works.

Still reading "Supreme Courage".  It is truly excellent book and very readable - written with enthusiasm by an enthusiast who has "been there".  I appreciate that it is expensive (£20), and that Christmas expenses may be causing credit card psychosis, but if this is your thing - pawn something and buy it.

I've just finished Terry Pratchett's "Going Postal" - which was every bit as good as expected.

And I'm about about 30 pages into Neal Stephenson's "Quicksilver" - which is already fascinatingly good. I read far too quickly for my own good, so the best news about finding a book like this is that it's the size of a housebrick and the first part in a trilogy. Yay for big books.

Just finished 'The Hurricane' an unauthorised biography of Alex Higgins (obviously!).  I'm feeling a bit sad at the moment because it's like a legend has been difused before my eyes. Great talent, unique showman, but a very flawed human being who has ended up with nothing and is now sleeping on the floors of whatever 'friends' he has left.

His attitude towards authority, fellow professionals, women (especially) and the press was disgraceful and I feel like one of my childhood heroes has been exposed as a fraud.    :'( :'( :'(   Well written but, I'm sorry I read it.

Three books to recommend.
John Williams - The Liverpool Way (a commentary on the 2002-3 season but so much more as well, the best book on LFC I've read)
Rubicon - A History of the Roman Republic (reads very easily as a narrative as well as good history)
Ian Rankin - anything!!

Someone on a previous page recommended Ian Banks' 'Dead Air' - I've read some of his before and got bit fed up, is this a return to form?

Last week finished 'Diary' by Chuck Palahniuk and 'Brighton Rock' by Graham Greene.  Both quite good, Diary is a cross between Rosemary's Baby & The Wicker Man and Brighton Rock is one of those books you can see being used in school English classes in a few years time.

Just started 'The Return of the Dancing Master' by Henning Mankell, which has started off quite promising.

Conchis.  "Brighton Rock" was made into a film many years ago.  If you get a chance to see it its worth a look.   A very young Richard Attenborough is a chilling "Pinky".

FOOKING HELL.

Just having a quick flick through the book and something in an article popped out  at me about "taking a day off school with me dad to queue for tickets for the Forest match in the '78/'79 European Cup"

I did that I thought, then after reading more I realised it was a post I'd written on .tv about Kop Memories and there at the end in bold letters is me name.Chuffed to buggery.
