Makes sense with Alonso - hasn't been around due to Spain duty, and has barely trained at Liverpool.

Who's playing off of Cisse, I wonder - Harry or Garcia? I think it's Harry's best role, as he's strong and good in the air, and can link play. Garcia might be better arriving late into the box from out wide.

Rafa's gone for players who were around the last fortnight (Didi, Garcia) and in Finnan, someone used to the Premiership.

No Pongolle on the bench again - is he still ill or do we only need one sub striker with one up front? - he didn't play for France U21s (Le Tallec did). No Warnock either, so he's going for experience. Understandable.

Interesting to see Luzi in ahead of Harrison despite Pat's howlers in midweek for the ressies.

Surprised by Warnocks exclusion as well as with Alonso seeing as he only played 20 mins on Wednesday whereas Cisse played most of the France game and wasn't back until late yesterday.

Interesting to see finnan on. He was onthe verge of a move away a few weeks ago, perhaps to bburn and now he's started a few games. Don't really rate him myself. I see him as rather a stop gap in that right sided role. I still feel we needa right sided player. Unless, of course, Garcia is ear marked for that position with Nunez out left. But, if that is teh case then it's strange that we haven't put garcia out right today and told harry to get wide left and played baros and cisse up top. Perhaps rafa's not liking the two big men up top and would prefer a link man. I would agree with this. We'll have to see whether both cisse and baros are happy with this though. It strikes me that both would rather be the main man, with the pressure of and expectancy that 20+  goals will follow. I don't like rotation up front.

Xabi will be a permanent fixture and I reckon his omission today is soley down to his mid week game. That said, he had a bit of a mare midweek and I'd bet he really wanted to play today to get it out of his system. He must be gutted to be on the bench. When you join a new club you need to get in to the team early on and make a name for yourself. Playing a bit part is always harder, especially when coming on off the bench for your home debut.

I expect a win today, but it'll be close. 2-1 is my guess.

Paul,

Pongolle is injured that's why he didn't for any of the the U-21' games

Suprised at no Warnock! Be quite interesting to say the least how Garcia could work in the hole... expecting him to open his account too. But Finnan on the right?  :-\

Garcia Hamann SG Warnock
            Kewell
                    Cisse

would have made more sense to me but there you go.

Think Kewell will answer some critics with a solid game and set up garcia for the opener. Baros will come of the bench and score from outside the area

It's an interesting line up, I sort expected this sort of team versus Bolton, instead of the two new Spainish players starting that game.

Looks like a decent team to me, with Xabi probably coming on at some stage in the match.

Sounds like Kewell is playing up top with Cisse. Garcia in Midfield. I'm a bit disappointed at Warnock's absence to be honest.

Garcia just missed a great chance with a header.

Great work from Stevie G on the left though.

I take that comment back. Champagne Charlie says it's the other way round.

How odd. Sky were reporting the second goal before it had even occured on e-Season ticket. Thought they were making it up cause I had not heard it on the official match comms ;D

Supring that, given the latency associated with Satellite
