Celta finished a respectable 13th in 2022/23 La Liga - though just 3 points off a relegation spot - beating Barcelona 2-1 on the last day of the season to stay up...

The 5 seasons prior saw Celta finish in 11th, 8th, 17th, 17th, and 13th - with now 35 year old Iago Aspas finishing Top Scorer for Celta in all those seasons.

Their main discussion board is foro fame celeste, . Having looked at their squad, I think the strikers Strand Larsen and Paciencia, attacking mids  Veiga, Swedberg, Aspas, winger Bamba, midfielders Tapia, Hugo Sotelo and defenders Mingueza, Manu Sanchez, Aidoo, Carlos Dominguez and Unai Nunez all fit his profile and can show improvement. Some like Tapia and Carles Perez are raw in certain aspects, a quality new goalie will give the most improvement to the side. Since they are likely shipping Ruben Blanco off to Marseille, a signing is possible.
In terms of young prospects, think Hugo Sotelo has shown superb composure in finding passes under pressure from centre mid, knitting the play. Carlos Dominguez at centre back is interesting.
Manu Sanchez is the only recognised left back, for now.
New signing Dotor's got Lucas Leiva vibes. Miguel at right wing and also Fontan at left back have stepped up from the reserves and done well but you get that a bit in pre season.

Edit: Even players who fit his profile like Tapia and Paciencia may be sold to generate funds to remodel the squad, it's interesting looking at the figures they work with and then you return to the mad world of the English league.

Yeah, same here - although I thought he did really well at Newcastle given the conditions. Looking forward to following him and Celta this season.

Celta feels like a good fit now though, underdog club. Hope he is given time, I know Spanish league can be just as ruthless if not more. But at least he doesn't have English press to deal with.

Yeah, Rafa does like working on a challenging project - and under difficult owners at times

The Dalian Pro project was an intriguing one - given the control and oversight he had (input on coaching 6 year olds, pitches, training grounds, through to transfers, and stadium design). Covid really seemed to have a massive impact out there, so can see why he left in early 2021. And before the UN Reports finally verifying and chronicling the existence of internment camps for Uyghurs; and their appalling treatment and abuse.

G&H (+ Purslow & Tyrell), Moratti, Abramovich, De Laurentiis, Perez, Ashley, Teflon Kenwright & the Bitters!... he's certainly not shied away from some 'interesting' characters!

Celta should be a little more... 'stable', if not as demanding as anywhere else. Plus, like you say, let's hope he gets that time and support.

Though I'm sure the likes of Richard Keys and other no-marks will be already looking to get more digs in / writing up more attack-pieces at the ready

His two seasons in the Prem with Newcastle they were 10th and 13th, they weren't fighting relegation at any point, but I think in that last season they started it a bit poorly which was why they ended up finishing a bit lower. Almiron was probably the only significant incoming I can remember them making as well during that. The China move and then Everton were obviously poor decisions but he likes a mad one doesn't he.
