Sincere condolences to all his family. It’s probably no consolation for them but Gerry and the Pacemakers have provided the soundtrack to the lives of anyone who grew up in Liverpool in the 60s.
Legend is a word thrown around these days with too much carelessness. He deserves the title for achieving 3 no1s with the first three singles.
He also gave us his version of YNWA for our anthem.

Sad, sad news.

I'm sure when we're allowed back into the stadium and George presses play before kickoff, it will be sung and echo around the stadium with that little bit more passion and meaning, as it has continued to do so throughout our history.

There have been a lot of, rightly, highly lauded players/managers/coaches associated with the club over the years but this fella truly deserves to be mentioned alongside them in terms of his (and his band's) imprint on the club's history.

About 15 years ago we took my Dad for a Chinese in his favourite restaurant at the Pierhead, on the next table was Gerry Marsden with a few friends, I clocked him but said nothing because he was having a meal, later on in the toilet we ended up talking, he said hello and asked was it a special meal and I said yes it was my Dads 80th later on as we brought the cake out and started singing Happy Birthday, gerry joined in and came over and spoke to my Dad and generally proved to be a really nice fella. Just an ordinary little interaction but it left a nice memory. RIP Gerry
