RIP Tommy, what a fckin legend he is and was and the first goalie I saw standing between the sticks for us Kop-end.

He's one of the main people I've got to thank for being a red. Although I was born and grew up in Liverpool, my parents were both from Glasgow, so being a red or blue wasn't something to be passed down to me, I got to choose. I can still remember sitting round a table in Infant 3 (aged 7 ?) getting pressured into choosing, reds or blues - the clincher was a boy called Peter Thompson ( yes, really  ;D) telling me that Shanks, St John, Yeats and Lawrence were all scots and good reds, so as a son of scots parents so should I be. Thank fuck for Peter Thompson !

RIP Tommy Lawrence

Homage to Tommy Lawrence. One of the most decorated goalies in Liverpool history. Well done Tommy.

Thoughts are with his family today. Liverpool has lost a true son.

My memories of him was a really nice guy and the first in a line of great goalkeepers for us.

He was one of the few who would always stop and give you his autograph outside Melwood back in 64-66 period (I won't name the ones who didn't) and he always did it with a smile to all of us kids who'd been waiting patiently to see our heroes.

RIP Tommy and heartfelt commiserations to all his family.

Very sad to hear of Tommy's passing. Can't remember when that interview was recorded but it should be cherished as it's a window into another world. It's beautiful. Great to read from those that saw him in the flesh.

I can see loads of dads now explaining to their kids who Tommy Lawrence was and what he did. It reminds of my dad reading in the paper about the death of Elisha Scott and telling me stories of him Dixie Dean and Parson Jackson. These people never die . They live on in our stories and hearts. All the  ore reason to make sure you let your kids know about the history of the club. I hear so many other clubs fans deride us because we go on about our history . Without our past the present has no real meaning. Knowing where you came from is so i important .

Saw the 60 mins on Tommy Lawrence last night on LFCTV and it was a great window into the club back in the late 50s, 60s where Tommy retold some great tales. Hopefully most of you saw it as there was some cracking stories. Tommy was great friends to the Hunts especially Peter but everyone knew Roger was destined for greatness, Roger was 18 months older than Tommy & Peter who played once for the club. Tommy signed on as an apprentice with the club at 15 I think and pretty much cleaned the boots, ground cwork, swept up after games and trained with the Liverpool B team on Tues & Thurs. There was only 3 apprentices in the club at the time and they were more likely found painting the stands than training on a pitch. How times have changed. He thought his time at the club was done as he entered his final year of his first contract, the club bought Jim Furnell as their new #1 and Tommy didnt get a look in until Jim broke his finger early in the 1962 season. Tommy took his chance and was the clubs #1 for all of the 60s. Funny story he told about Spurs hammering us 7-2 as we previously had beaten them 5-2 that season. Greavsie was on fire that season like every season pretty much so Tommy said Shanks for the first time ever pretty much got one of our boys to man mark Greaves. That paid a lot of dividends as he scored 4 goals that day Tommy said with a laugh. Another funny story was when Tommy lost the bottom part of the Cup in 65 as he was told to keep an eye on it during the celebrations. Eventually a furious Shanks found Tommy in his bedroom getting ready for the dinner that night screaming where's the Cup? Tommy didnt have a clue. Our first FA Cup ever won and we bloody lost it Shanks said. You lost it. Later that night Shanks again found Tommy and said dont worry as the bottom of the cup was found on a bus parked up in Southend. Shanks said that Tommy was as close to the cup residing in Southend as he was to Bremmers volleyed goal in the Final earlier that day. LOL . Im just repeating some great tales from that show so please feel free to watch it if you can.
I have a simple philosophy: Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi5-V75v-6I

The viral BBC video popped up on my feed recently. I was born in the 90's, so I never saw him play but reading some of the stories and interviews in this thread has been great. Seems like he was well ahead of this time by playing as a sweeper keeper.

RIP Tommy, would have been an honour to watch you play  :scarf

Any old muckers remember him??
RIP Tommy
I remember that clip from a few years ago , brought a tear to my eye .
Tommy was our keeper when I first started going to the match in the mid 60s  , he was known as the “ Flying Pig “ good keeper in his day and played for Scotland on a few occasions
