There is not an outstanding candidate at the moment, like Suarez last year, Rvp the year before, Ronaldo and Henry in the past. Right now it seems more about combinations, Cesc and Costa, Sterling and Sturridge, Yaya and Silva. At some stage one player will stand out , but not in the way we have seen in recent years. If Aguero stays fit he is arguably the most outstanding individual, but that is never going to happen.

Aguero, Silva, Toure, but would not swap any of them for Sterling, who will be Player of the Year this season.
And with such simplicity,
The European Cup, surely, is won.

Can someone clarify what the 'best' actually means in here because im confused as it looks like everyones got their own definition of what that means? is it best 'proven' in this league as some are saying you cant be the best if you havent done it here? is it the most individually talented player? is it the most consistent performing player? is it the one who scores the most goals? is it the one who influences the biggest matches most?

It would be an easier threat to contribute to if it was made a little clearer because otherwise you get names like Aaron sodding Ramsey featuring in the best players in the league above some of the best players in the world which is a bit moronic.

If we're talking purely on ability right now the best players in this league are:

Aguero
Yaya Toure
Di Maria

For me.

In 2014 it's been Raheem Sterling.

Overall, probably Di Maria, but based on track record in this league then I'd say maybe Aguero or Cesc who's already shown he has what it takes in this league.

Krul never played for Ajax. If I'm correct he even didn't play in the Eredivisie.

There is no stand out player in the league. Suarez was comfortably the best player in the league for the past couple of years (even when Bale was here). I really couldn't pick one. A fully fit Aguero if I was forced.

Toure and Aguero are a level ahead of the rest IMO.

Hazard, Fabregas,  Silva, Ramsey, Sturridge, a fit RVP all slightly behind IMO.

Di Maria, Courtois and Costa will most likely prove to be among these, but the PL can be a very different kettle of fish, so lets see how he does.

Aguero, Van Persie, Toure, Silva, Sturridge, Hazard and maybe Di Maria, Mata, Fabregas and Sanchez if they recover the form they showed for other clubs, could all arguably lay a claim to be the best player in the league. It's always hard to say though. Different positions and all. For example, if you take midfielders, Ramsey and Fernandinho enter the equation and so on.

I think kompany no other player in the league is the best player in the world in their position.

Also have people not seen hazard in the last 8 months? Don't see how people think he's the best in the league.

You must be a nightmare to shop with ;D
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

So I did some counting and did a ranking based on everytime a player was stipulated as the outright best or included in a list of the top 5 etc. in the thread.

Here are the top ranked with scores of 10 or more:

48 YaYa
45 Aguero
34 Silva
24 Sterling
17 Fabregas
16 Hazard
14 Ramsey
13 Sturridge
12 Di Maria
10 Kompany

My vote would be Silva.

This.  There are a lot of top class players now and it takes one of the worlds best to stand out amongst them.  I don't think the league currently has one.  Arguably kompany, courtois, toure etc but I tend to think of attackers as they radically change matches.

Aguero is very good, but how much better than van persie, Costa, falcao, Sturridge? For me to be the best player in the league it needs to be someone who stands above them all even on a poor day.

You're not just wrong, but really, really, really, really wrong.

Sterling has been a fantastic player considering his age. But lay off the hyperbole.

Hard to argue, honestly thought he may have just been a one season wonder at Atletico, but looking very like he's going to absolutely destroy the league should he stay fit.

Chelsea massive early favorites this season for the league imo
