Comiserations to Gala
« on: March 19, 2002, 11:54:03 PM »
In our moment of glory ( ;D ) I would just like to offer my comiserations to the Gala fans who have been our guests over the last few months.

When the draw was made for the 2nd group stages I don't think I was alone in being concerned about what would happen in the matches between us. However, due in part to the efforts of Bob Kurac and others, and the efforts of many Gala groups, including Ultr'Aslan, links were made and friendships established.

In particular, I don't recall seeing any Barca or Roma fans on this forum! And while members of the Barca and, to a lesser extent, Roma clubs were disrepectful towards us I don't remember anything but courtesy from Galatasaray.

So comiserations Galatasaray, thankyou for your kind words of support over the last few months and good luck for the rest of the season!

You'll Never Walk Alone!!!

I was hoping Gala would get thru and we could as there fans have often posted 'walk thru hand in hand'.

It is amazing what a bit of communication does to influence your vie w of stereotypes.  Well done to the LFC fans who initiated the communication.

I believe some effort has been made with the roma travelling fans in Liverppool otday esp at the airport.

Lets hope we can continue this theme thru the remaining matches.

Good luck Gala - now my favourite Turkish team

Well I was just coming on to wish good luck to Liverpool in the CL & the Premiership (and thanks for knocking Roma out  ;D ) And was very happy  :) to see this post.

Unfortunately as you know Barca beat us 1-0  :'( ... although it was very different from our other games where we were just defending 90% of the time (especially in the first half I think that we had complete control and should have beaten them... or at least scored ...) Anyway maybe next year  ;) (In a way I'm happy because if we had got through we would have had to knock Liverpool out in the final  8) ;D 8) )

Thank You Liverpool for your outsanding show of friendship and lets keep the good contact between the two clubs going.

Good luck in your remaining games - Galatasaray fans will be supporting you!

CYA next time around

Yup. Commiserations to Gala. It's a damn shame that that tosser De Boer (the drugs cheat who likes to get on his high horse about the purity of his football) will be going through to the quarter finals.

I am sure that LFC and Gala will meet again for some mpore great matches and some more great rivalry played out as it should be- in a spirit of respect and friendship.

Great post Anthony... and my thoughts exactly.

Commiserations to Gala and the best of luck for the rest of the season... it's great to see a bit of mutual respect and good old fashioned football banter breaking down the stereotypes and blind ignorance around today. Superb.

de Boer?

Yes, absolutely.

When I saw that Barca scored obviously givin our situation at the time (1-0) I was extremely happy, but then after coming down to Earth I was sad for a minute cause I realised Gala was probably eliminated. Would have bee great if the two allied sides went through (also both underdogs) and the two arrogant teams who bashed our style went out.

I will definatly keep an eye on the Turkish championship to see how Gala does.

Good luck!

Well many of us as Gala fans, we are very sad for not going through to the next round however definately very happy to have made new friends from Liverpool which already is most of ours favorite English team when we grew up as football fans.

Good luck in the next round,

I want to add my commiserations to Our turkish friends as well. This forum gave people the chance to see the side of the Gala fans not shown by the traditional media and it made a refreshing change.  Unlucky lads - win your league and come back next year.

One of the greatest things that came out of all these was the bonds of friendship that was built between the fans of 2 great clubs.  For that reason, I am extremely proud to have been able to experience the use of football and the internet to unite people instead of divide.  Long may it continue.

I saw that goal too -- yes it was offside.  It's unfortunate for Mondragon who was superb when we played.

In addition, Gala should have won in Nou Camp (2 brilliant goals) and what an archievement that would be.

Remember, we are drawn into the toughest group in this stage and everybody can hold their heads high whether they are out or not.  If the game in Istanbul results in a draw it would be a 7-7-7-6 finish which will be written into the record books of European Football as the toughest group to qualify for.

Anyway tough luck and hope you all do well for the rest of season.

I also wish good luck to Liverpool in the CL and premier league. As I said in my first posting,Liverpool were legends  in Europe  and favorite team among Galatasaray fans in Istanbul in the 80's.Still there are hundreds of people having Liverpool scarves and jerseys in Ali Sami Yen stadium. The reason is not only the colours, but at the same time your team play with team spirit, your fans (like ours) are extremely loyal...

I remeber the day (may 1978 ) in Wembley,Liverpool defeated Brugges to become European Champions and that day made me Liverpool fan as well, and my father had bought me a Liverpool jersey number 7(symbolizing my favorite Kenny Dalglish).

I hope this year you play final against Real Madrid and win this trophy again.

But we Galatasaray, will definetely win this trophy as well.

good luck both in CL and especially in premier league against Manchester United (which I dislike enormously).

Very pleased to see how my fellow Liverpool friends think this way. We had an unlucky game vs. Barca but now that is in the past. As many of the Gala fans would say, we are rooting you L'pool now in the cup, you are in a way representing Gala also! Win the cup and make us feel better! Oh please win Premier league also, I am really sick of m. united . Anyways I'll be in touch on this forum if none of you l'pool fans mind, so later guys..oh kick chelsea's ass also this week!

Gala above all!

Good luck with the Turkish league

It was the last 5 or 10 minutes of the game Galatasaray v. Barca and I witnessed something which I didnt ever saw at Ali Sami Yen before. Gala was down 1-0 and the crowd stopped to support the team and began to applauding them and the rivals.. The players on the pitch and the supporters gave up struggle for the equaliser and this was very very unusual for Galatasaray.. I heard a lot of supporters around me shouting "Give up, stop going onwards! otherwise Liverpool will be kicked out and Roma will go thru.". It was the last minutes of the game and our hopes to win faded out and a draw would have no use for us.. So Gala contented to lose for the sake of Liverpool (and also for the rage on Roma) something never happened before at the Hell.. No need to say that now we all hope Liverpool will win the CL this year.. go Reds go!

GREAT TOPIC ... THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

As a Gala fan, i am very proud to see this topic. Many thanx to Anthony.

Gala is out of CL competition; but we will pray for LFC to raise the CL CUP. Liverpool is our brother team and i don't think any other team would replace it from now on.
