Hopefully he'll be ok but if he was feeling the effects of a tight groin before the Honduras game, why even risk him for 45 minutes? Rhetorical question really, we know the owl shaped answer!

Meh. He'll be fit for the start of the season for us, that's all that matters as far as I'm concerned.

If he doesn't make it, England are going to be fucked though.

Given the seriousness of the operation to repair the last groin injury, you'd have thought Hodgson would have rested him against Honduras, surely?

Probably "testing his desire for England" as he was with Sturridge.

Slight over reaction from some. Its a bit of tightness and should be fit for Saturday. I understand the previous injury comments but they have a team of professionals and Steven himself would take some of the responsibility for being fit or not.

On the flip side if It was serious enough to put him out of the world cup, then I'd feel for the chap as he loves his international duty but it would mean a rest and him being fresh for us come the start of the season.

Possibly his last international tournament. The World Cup, in Brazil, and he is Captain. Only a few weeks after he should have been lifting the league trophy. I'd have bee devastated had he missed out due to Hodgson's idiocy. I don't want England to win, but certainly want all the redmen to do well.

Exactly, how some rank not wanting to see Hodgson win it over wanting to see Stevie, Hendo, Sterling, Sturridge, Lambert, etc all win it is beyond me.

Keep the beard Stevie. Grow it out and people won't dare get next to you.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

This is probably worth putting in here rather than the Rooney thread...

Gerard is expendable to Liverpool and England. He can be replaced. In fact it's very arguable wether our best midfield would contain him. We were excellent in midfield while he was injured last December

Well that was my thinking but maybe he'll surprise us.

I was fairly vocal about not thinking the move would be a success but was massively wrong (and have admitted this in here) as not only has he shown some of his best form since, but so have we as a club.

The context is simple. You think England should play like Liverpool. I think that's impossible without Suarez and Brendan.  You think it is by saying 5 Liverpool players in England side

I say it doesn't matter how many Liverpool players are in England side as Suarez isn't 1 of them. He is the reason we were second. He is not expandable to Liverpool, whereas Gerrard is.

The team was good most the season, including when Suarez was out too, however we had out best run and form when Gerrard was in the deep position.

Ah the old December form of the midfield when Stevie was out is back again.
I love the way people easily forget that our form 2nd half of the season with Stevie in the side was far better than December but why let that get in the way of a agenda eh.

Edit: in fact as mentioned above we played pretty well all season no matter who was in the team, be that Lucas/ Stevie or Suarez/Sturridge.

Looked injured to me last night.  Watch him trying to chase back in the last few mins when the Italians broke,  could barely take a full stride............. and it didn't look like tiredness,  his whole gait was just wrong.
Rossiter absolutely bossed it tonight. Really believe he'll end up playing more games this season than Lucas.

I think the whole teams fitness has been atrocious. Cahill, Gerrard, Sterling all went down with cramp. Italy were cruising and playing it round which takes up little effort, England were charging around like mad men and haven't had the correct fitness training to do so. Gerrard would struggle with all these games anyway, but with the manager and staff not looking after the players properly, he may struggle to even get to game 3.

We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks
