I'm having something of a "destination" wedding next month (about a 2 hour drive south of our home city - Sydney - so far enough that overnight accommodation is a near-must, but not far enough that hefty travel costs are incurred). I must say I have a few regrets because some of my friends have pulled out with some pretty lame excuses. On the other hand, if someone can't be arsed driving a few hours and stumping up a hundred bucks per couple for a motel to attend the biggest day of your life (which is costing around 300 bucks a head) then maybe they're not such great friends. The wedding is turning out to be quite a good reality check, but I'm a bit sad that the party may be smaller than we'd hoped. Amazing location, though - far superior and way, way bigger grounds than anything we could afford in Sydney.
As far as Europe is concerned, the destination should be used for the stag weekend - there's plenty of nice countryside in the UK that people can easily access, no real need to go o/s.
