This is from Al Jazeera Sports, which is owned by the Qatari Royal Family, the same owners as Ooredoo.

The link below is in Arabic but has quotes from a director in the company which I translated below.

"The goal was to sponsor a big English club with a huge history, our search included Arsenal & Manchester United but the former two have long sponsorship deals and the same applies to Manchester City so Liverpool is the only club available right now."

"We want to sponsor the club in full. We want to sponsor the Stadium (possibly rename it) as well as the club's kits. Our goal is to reach the Asian markets where the Premier League has an enormous fan base."

"We received the tender from the club a few days ago and we are currently in the process of due diligence and we are studying each aspect of the study."

"It is a dual interest, Liverpool needs the money to compete with the European heavyweights and we want to expand our brand to reach new markets via football."

Just from looking on Wikipedia, this is the new brand name for Qatar Telecom.

Interesting if true, bizarre looking at Arsenal ahead of us given we clearly have a much larger following.

Well it's up for renewal so other will obviously be interested in at least looking at making a bid for it.

I hope they sponsor the shit out of us and spend all their petrodollars on our merchandise, stadium, players, manager and whatever shit they can put their money/brand.  We'll kick on from here and tie up all our top players on 200k contracts and buy up all the Bales, Agueros, Tevezes and any top mercenaries out there.

Have no clue whether the interest is true or not, but Arsenal just renewed their shirt sponsorship agreements (in 2012)

It is not surprising the club would be talking to other potential sponsors. It is surprising that it has been published at an early stage.

When is our current deal due to expire? Is it at the end of next season? I know we initially started a 4 year deal in 2010 but I know there was talk about 6 months ago that we were due to extend the deal, did this happen?

Even still its probably nothing,

They can sponsor our shirts if they want although I'd rather they became kit manufactuers instead even if they were colour blind with no hands they could do a better job than warrior :)

Who knows if this is even remotely true. I'd quibble with your analysis though and say that the article said they considered three clubs but two weren't possible and so LFC was the only one left, not that they looked at them before us.

If this is true then the extra money would be rather nice.

Not really given that Arsenal at the time would have had a brand new stadium, Anfield will always be Anfield, investors will know that. Whereas The Emirates.....

Of course, Standard Chartered adheres to a strong ethics code in all facets of their business dealings... ;D

Not to bothered, guess if it means more dough £££  ;) Would be nice to get a training sponsorship deal like United have with DHL.

Its a bit like with takeovers.

No party with a genuine interest is going to broadcast their intentions to the media ahead of putting in a formal bid.

Just looking for a bit of free publicity no doubt
