Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen partnership
« on: August 18, 2012, 05:00:10 PM »
Looks fucking great.

It'll take a while for Lucas to get back to 100% but the signs were there today that we have potentially a very, very good partnership in the team.

Most people in this world are tits. The fact they have an allegiance with Liverpool Football Club doesn't change that.

Looks fantastic. I think, though, we might have to get used to one of them being taken off or even benched for some games, despite them being 2 of our best players by the looks of things, as I think we'll probably play with more attackers sometimes.

Brilliant though. Really good.

How does it look great?

They got dominated by the likes of Mulumbu and Gera.

Lucas needs to get fit ASAP, I thought they were both poor today.

I think it was really good. One of the only positives of the game. Unfortunately Gerrard looked out of sorts.
When in doubt, toss a coin. Not because it will help you take a decision, but because for the moment coin is in the air, you'll know what your heart truly wants.

Gerrard was utter shite today individually with Downing and Borini only showing sporadic moments, but even as a whole didn't think we performed that well in midfield today in the first half. Kept the ball quite well but had no presence and intensity. Played too slowly.

It'll take time, let's see how it develops, on paper it's potentially a very good partnership and they will learn how to extract the width from our side.

i think the focus should be turned to certain aspects of the formation

thought they both did well but when the ball did get to where it was meant to go things just didnt happen because of the formation and where players were playing.
if we play gerarrd defensively we will be weaker imo.
if he cant play consistently in an attacking role then imo he should be benched.

downing needs to learn that he should be in the box when the plays on the otherside....such a basic thing for an "international"

thats mainly down to movement...we have had this problem before ......some players are just unwilling or unable to make runs where they know they wont be getting the ball....thats team work.

The "front four" didn't link up very well at all today so it was difficult for Lucas/Allen. We haven't been geared to play with width for a long time now. Even when we had Xabi a lot of the time our widemen or full backs were receiving the ball too deep rather than running into space. Lucas and Allen will be absolutely crucial in being able to keep the ball high up the pitch and bringing our wide men (full backs will play a big role) into the game. It'll take time.
It's wonderful, it's marvellous, it's 3-3

Very strong central midfield pairing. Allen was impressive today.

If we can get these two some good movement in front of them we will be I the up.

Would like Clint deuce Dempsey in front of them to help with penetration as well as Steve g

Lucas and Allen are as good as any central midfield pairing in the league. Let's do justice them by bringing in supportive players who are of a high standard

tbf i thought first half everything was under control.

the partnership worked quite well.

the issue really is the other positions ahead of em.

br needs balls to make the tough decisions....unlike what our last few managers didnt have.

this time those players are too old/legs gone....so br has a much easier chance of doing what is needed .

sentiment is gonna cost us quite a few players next season otherwise.

You can see the possibilities, but Lucas was relatively poor.  Obviously it is expected though so can't be too hard on him.  Need patience with him, I thought Allen was very good though, great signing it looks like.

I want what some of you lads are drinking.

They might on paper, but it did not work today at all.  Hardly any signs of it working either, unless you are the sort of person that hears messages from the devil by playing Beatles records backwards.

And, I do say this as one of the biggest and long time (since his debut) Lucas backers on this site.

More of a team wide calamity today today which makes it harder for anyone to perform.

We did show some intent at the start of the second half though, until the red card.  I will give you that.

Football is a team game afterall.

Once this partnership is sorted, the whole team will then be settled. But this partnership needs to be worked on. It may take time, but I hope it clicks straight away.

Boss! I wouldnt get ahead of ourselves. They looked decent but we got bullied in midfield, Lucas looks sloppy and Allen looked decent.

If we looked great today while losing 3-0 how would you describe them if we did win?

Better call Sherlock to solve this mystery.

Honestly, if people can't see the positives in this partnership then I don't know how you can analyse football.

The home team, first game of the season with the crowd cheering for them, started off brightly as you would expect. They were always going to have the upper hand and be fired up for it. Just you wait for the season to progress and then come back in here when these 2 are bossing it.
Easy Lucas isn't match fit and Allen had a few touches here and there as well as giving the ball away. As for it being the partnership of the future. Ok I give you that we'll see how it develops.

Sahin isn't a DM though.

I think he can play there much better than Spearing can, which is our current cover.  A recovering Lucas shouldn't be our number one option.  I think if Sahin came we might see Lucas being relied on much less.  We need Sahin before the City match.  Judging from todays performance Lucas is off the pace and not ready to be thrown into the deep end against City and Arsenal.  Would much rather see Allen and Sahin than Lucas and Allen/Sahin.

Lucas should always be the first choice. Spearing shouldn't be anywhere near the team, Sahin or no Sahin, but would be happy with Sahin for cover over Adam/Spearing.
