The signing of Allen, gives us great options with Gerrard now. He can either be one of the three attackers, or the tip of a midfield trio. At 32 it will also allow us to rest him more and bed in Henderson, three smart players in midfield, Allen, Lucas and Jordan could work well together, you would assume Hendo would play a more advanced role (his defensive abilities not being the best, actually his shooting is not too great either but that may be down to confidence as he does make good runs into the box). My only concern is that they are a bit too similar to play as a unit. Allen/Lucas is mouthwatering.

Agree with this but I see Shelvey as the long term alternative to Stevie. Can see Hendo being the man to fill in when Lucas or Allen is rested and Shelvey playing further forward when Gerrard isn't playing. Jonjo is much more confident going forward than Jordan and looks a bigger goal threat too.

He was in the end perhaps the icing more like a whole new tier on the cake, but at first there was an element of shit our hero Kev's gone and is this Dalglish lad going to be any good, a bit like Allen now, but  with Allen and as happened with Kenny a few minutes in to a game that thought should be gone from your mind.

I think your right. My only concern with Jonjo filling Gerrard's CAM role is that he lacks Gerrard's turn of pace. Of course well timed runs could alleviate that somewhat.

I do like what I have seen of Allen but I'll reserve any judgement until he settles in. Our recent signings over previous years haven't given me great confidence even though I have been prepared to support all of them (even Konchesky and Poulson). Only Suarez has bettered my expectations. Anyhow good luck Joe and I already liked our structure and pass and move football the other night so he should fit in well.

Just been looking at the pics of Allen on his medical and I've got to ask is it really that necessary to show this? I just think it's a bit weird that's all, I know I wouldn't like someone taking shots of me while I'm at the quack, it's got to be a bit embarrassing surely? I think we are one of the only clubs that show this as well so I don't see a reason why they couldn't stop doing it, maybe it's just me and I'm the weird one and all this is normal I don't know, but seeing the pics of Allen on his medical, something just doesn't look right..

I think Allen will prove to be a really astute signing in the long-term, and improve our midfield in the short-term. A 91% pass success rate and the third-highest tackles statistic (110) in his first season in the top division for a 22-year old lad is a quality output, and despite it showing the tight-knit unit that Swansea F.C. were last year, his individual talent is obvious. He clocks in at 36 league games played, indicating (for the time being) an injury-free consistency to his game over the course of a season, which is important for the base of (younger) players the squad is developing around - Reina, Skrtel, Enrique, Lucas, Henderson, Suarez and Borini, who all appear pretty resistant to the niggling injuries encountered frequently across a season. For the now, I think Allen's midfield slot is pretty obvious: right in next to Lucas, with Gerrard pushed towards the forwards, enabling ball retention, passing tempo and dictation of play, as well as positional security and the midfield pressing as a unit.

It's important when you're trying to retain possession as part of the manager's system of play that your midfield especially is capable of doing it.

Assuming Allen proves to be worth his value (or grows in value) this will be very positive for us, based on who created that value - Rodgers.  Swansea have already benefitted from Gylfi and now Allen for say 25M.  If Rodgers can increase value of players to that extent it bodes well.  - and FSG will be happy with their choice.  Interesting way to think of it and Swansea certainly have done well from Rodgers.

Rodgets speaks really highly of him as well and there probably isn't another manager who has seen more of his football ability than him
