LFC vs ROchdale game abandoned
« on: August 5, 2012, 06:34:54 PM »
Nick from another site.....

Liverpool continued pre-season preparations earlier today with a behind-closed-doors friendly with Rochdale Town at Melwood, which was abandoned after 55 minutes as a result of a serious injury to one of the Lancashire club's players.

Rochdale striker Reece Gray suffered a serious ankle injury in the 50th minute of the game**, and it sounds like a major incident, especially given the fact he was rushed to Accident and Emergency for an urgent operation. Reece tweeted from the hospital:
"Thanks for all the messages people. Really appreciate it!.. Jus hope that the op goes well, and should be back playing football soon as!"

Reece also praised Liverpool medical staff for their swift action:

"Can't thank all the club doctors/physio's enough that were on hand too assist me 2day at melwood... Really appreciate it"

At the time of the injury, Liverpool were winning the game 2-1, with the goals scored by Nathan Eccleston and Glen Johnson.

The starting line-up was very interesting. After missing out against FC Gomel, Daniel Agger returned, as did Andy Carroll and Pepe Reina

Sounds like he might've dislocated his ankle.  Wish him a speedy recovery.

Baring in mind Jimmy Kuntwar is the source of that article I'd take what it says with a pinch of salt.

The player himself tweeting it probably validates the story.

As someone pointed out in the youth thread, the most interesting thing about the lineup was Kelly playing CB.  I think he would be a great fit under Rodgers there, and I wonder if we might start to see him moved inside for the odd game this season.

Hope the Rochdale lad gets well soon.

Sounds like a serious injury if the game was abandoned.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Ont he bright side - at least the boy's had a few more minutes and it's good to have Reina back. Good to see Agger doing the whole 55mins and Glenno as well.

Anyway, wish the lad a speedy recovery.

The cynics amongst us could say he's being tried at centre back because we're selling Agger...

So why did we play Agger ?  Doesn't make a great deal of sense.  I think it's more to do with the fact Kelly and Johnson need match practise.

The side in general doesn't make any sense to me.  Starting Eccleston-Carroll-Pacheco up top, 3 players who it seems we're trying to get rid of... :o

If that is from a Jimmy Kuntwar article, you can expect to see another article blaming Rafa, Suarez, and the LFC medical staff for the injury.

My god do I hate that man, I don't understand how any Liverpool fan can read the shit he turns out.

Erm, maybe because it wasn't a game where the result/system used wasn't important - but was just to get fitness levels up  :wave

Yep. Same for Agger.

Quote
"We have a behind closed doors game for him this weekend to help his match fitness," said the manager.

"Daniel is fit, but we have to make sure his physical condition is up to speed. He wasn't going to play and as that was the case, I wanted him to use that time to work on his physical condition."
