“I will fight as hard as I possibly can to keep the players that I want here and he is one of them.” – Brendan Rodgers on Skrtel.

“Every player has his price. Daniel is a top player, he loves the club. But you can never say never.” – Brendan Rodgers on Agger.

Reacting to his quotes from earlier. I find his response quite surprising especially when you compare it to how forthright he was when asked about Skrtel a few weeks back.

Or you could, you know, post the full quote from Rodgers, instead of making it look a lot worse than it actually was:

Journo: "Do you see the possibility of others leaving, for example Daniel Agger is an interest for Manchester City"

Rodgers: "Not really. Daniel's a top player and no club wants to lose their top players. I suppose at every club we've seen it throughout, every player has a price but for me Daniel is a top class professional. I've really enjoyed working with him and speaking with him a lot in the last few weeks since he's been back, your top players will always be linked. I'm not forced to sell anyone, which is important. Daniel is a very very important player for here. Like I say we'll see what happens between now and the end of the month, but certainly for me he's getting back up to speed, he's a good guy, he loves the club here, loves the supporters, he's really focussed on his work here. But like I say you can never say never and I'm a realist as well, so we'll see where it goes between now and the end of the month."

Barrett says we refused a £20m bid from City, add this with Rodgers quotes today and IMO I think Agger will stay unless City offers a last minute bid that meets our valuation which I think is unlikely scenario.

Who says that? There is not ONE quote of Henry himself on that. I don´t buy this, especailly as the clubs was willing to accept big losses in order to get rid of unwanted players.

We haven't actually lost money on payers like aquilani.... Just sold him for a lot less than we bought him for..... Not quite the same thing (accounting wise anyway).

Of course we need to sell to buy.....

Every club has a budget .....every club....  When that budget is spent then you need to sell to buy more

If you want to buy several players then you are more likely to have to sell....

If we Jsut bought Borini then I'm sure we wouldn't have to sell....

If we hadn't had to pay compo to KK and Swansea, I'm sure we  would have to sell...

But that's not the case, we have, so we need to sell...

Perhaps we should say

"we need to sell to buy more"

I think he will go myself for a big amount.

Just hope we do it sooner so we can get a decent replacement.

Am I the only one that thinks Brendan is daring Man City to come up with the right price. Brendan didn't say Agger was leaving, but he said could leave for the right price. To me, it almost sounds like Brendan is challenging City to come up with an enormous offer for the Dane.

Tell ya what, if City can start off with £75 million, then we'll talk.

I would rater let him go for free to Barca than see him in that ugly blue shirt... No matter what amount City offers... I could not bare to se him in Any other PL-shirt than our red shirt....

From the telegraph:

''Every player has a price and top centre-halves are at a premium,'' said Rodgers.
''Thiago Silva has left AC Milan for PSG for £40million. 'He (Agger) is one of the leading players in European football, so it is going to be a big valuation. Is he a player I want to lose? No. He understands how I want to work and can play a real pivotal part in how I want to play. But I am a realist. If someone comes in with a massive bid and it is in the best interests of the club, whether it is Daniel or any other player, you have to look at it.''

And from JWH Rodgers:

''The reality is we don't have the money that was here,'' he said.
''I don't have a bucket load of money to go and get in a load of players. We have to be strategic.''

Sounds a bit more promising.  Ok he has his price, but it looks like we a playing hard ball and if he is to go we are going to get as much as we can get for him. I'd be surprised if we get 27m for him, only City would pay that but not Barca. Hopefully neither will want to pay it and we hold are nerve and don't budge from the price and he stays.

“Of course, you might lose a top player but if it benefits you going forward, and you can make two or three steps because of it, you may have to consider it. But we don’t want to sell him, so unless someone comes in with a ridiculous offer that makes you look at it and think you can benefit in one or two other areas, there is no way I want to lose one of my best players."

Tells us all we need to know right there.

Just confirms that we do NOT deperately need money. If he goes, then there are other reasons as it doesn´t make sense to sell a player from this quality.

Daniel is a top player and any manager will tell you that they don’t want to lose their best players.

Daniel and I have had a number of conversations so he knows where I am at, he knows where the club are at and he doesn’t want to leave which is great,” Rodgers said. “In my first conversation with Daniel at the Euros he made that quite clear. He loves the club, loves the supporters, so that was music to my ears.”

See, I can edit bits out too.

We do have quotes from Henry and he never, not once, said there is need to sell top players, nor did he say there won´t be any money to add quality to the squad.

The decisions made this summer are, same as last summer, up to the people responsible only, there was no need to sell quality the transfer windows before and it isn´t this summer. The people responsible decide to do so because they want it to be happening this way and not because they had to as they never ever said anything different, not Hodgson, Kenny, Comolli and Rodgers.

I don't think we are skint.  And I agree with Rodgers.  If we get 27m, sell.  We can buy two or three players with that and move forward.  Saying that, I wish it could be anyone but Agger.  If any player embodies what it's like to play for our club, it's him and Lucas.

Then the offer would decrease, they'd know we'd need to sell due to ffp.
