Very complex issue, hard not to disagree with the above. Think the US gun laws do make the weaponary easier to get hold of, but at the same time now that it's out there I think it would be hard to clamp down on. These people will still obtain the weapons if they're determined.

I just can't fathom why anyone would do this.

Education in how to safely maintain a gun is the key here, or education in general... and yet gets over looked every time for "reduce the gun laws" or "tighten the gun laws"

Cars are almost a necessity in the modern world, particularly in the US where public transport is ropey and distances are huge.

Guns are not a necessity, whether for sport or self defence.

Don't the shooting team have to go abroad to practice now becuase of gun laws here? I don't know how they do things in the Olympics but I refuse to believe that in this day and age those sorts of sports and guns can't be made with electronic sensors so they don't fire anything at all.

It absolutely sickens me hearing about the Aurora, Colorado shooting. Columbine, now this ? Isn't it time the American people actually stood up and asked for a change to the gun laws ? Or are they too fucking stupid and think that everyone having a gun makes them safer. Disgusting. No one should ever have to feel at risk going to a movie theater. Sadly, 14 people went that will never come back, purely on the whims of a mad man. It's a sad, sad state of affairs. RIP to the dead, and my thoughts are with the families affected and hopeful speedy recovery of the wounded.

Wrong. It was a knife, a rifle and a handgun. I'm pretty sure antique rifles are the only ones classified as legal in the UK and concealed knives and handguns most certainly aren't.

The premeditation of the guy is most certainly what is to blame, however the availability of these implements in the US means more of these incidents happen in countries with lax gun control than ones with stronger gun control. How many multiple handgun incidents in the UK have taken place since the Thomas Hamilton/ Dunblane massacre in the mid 90s?

I used to shoot .22 rifle at 50m for GB u18s - when the Dunblane tragedy happened they banned handguns. What did the sport do? They swapped to air pellets. I've even been on an electronic range with computer targets that are hit from a laser - it's identical to the real thing.

There's no need for lethal power in target sports.

My thoughts are with the victims and their families.

I think it might be the love affair, both historical and romantic inclined, that Americans have with guns that is a big part of the problem, not just the availability of them.

How could you change a law in a democracy that allows you to own a gun, except by the will of the people? The pressure doesn't seem to have reached critical mass yet.

Maybe some good can come out of a fucking horrible situation. My condolences to all those affected.

Democracy is a term that is loosely used for America. Capitalism much more accurate. You think that their government has no profit from selling guns ? Everything is about money over there.

If it's relatively easy to get a gun, and relatively easy to carry a gun, then it stands to reason that it's relatively easy to use a gun however you may see fit in the midst of your scattershot rage at 'society' (i.e. defenceless civilians). There may well be countries with relaxed firearm laws which don't have an issue with senseless massacres occurring with some regularity on public premises, but surely they make their fair share of nutcases there too? I'd rather we actively tried reducing the possibility of encountering a gun-toting maniac, than just shrugging and saying "shit happens". How you effectively do that right now, some smart people will need to get to work on... or be enabled to, that'd be a start. At present the US seems to just be enabling the killers, and any John Wayne-wannabe have-a-go heroes who're up for a wild west shootout with the baddies in the cafeteria or creche.

I watched this unravel on the box and it doesnt surprise me anymore. Think ive become too ' meh, another one '. Its becoming far too commonplace imo. I know Dave is a supporter of guns etc and thats his choice but could this world live without guns? They were designed with one thing in mind. To kill/harm/maim. And before someone jumps all over the ' well we could live without such and such as well ya know ' ill leave that for another topic

I see some poor young kid leg it out and he was dressed as Batman, i wonder what the poor little fucker was thinking. Has it really come down to this nowadays?
