Their goals of the season were just basically a compilation of Manchester United goals. Where was Cheik Tiote's goal against Arsenal? Easily goal of the season for me. Nevermind Roonay's shinner off a deflected cross.

I presume they were the winners of Goal of the Month from each month. Tiote's was in the same month (February) as Rooney shin-kick.

Thought Berbatov's goal against Blackburn was the best. Rooney's was well executed, but so was Meireles and Tevez goals. Can't see how you'd judge them any differently.

The montage at the end is honestly one of the worst things i've ever seen. Truly awful in every way.

The one at the end of Soccer Sunday was brilliant tbf.

Agreed on that one though, absolute shite.

There was no attempt from Blackburn to defend against that Berbatov goal. It looked easy to pass around their players because it was. They also shipped five goals that day..

And Meireles and Tevez's goals were both master displays of technique and precision, whereas Rooney basically kicked out in the general direction of the ball, it hit his shin and connected with the right force and enough accuracy to send it into the corner of the goal. They showed the build-up to the Rooney goal as well. Rooney's misdirected pass that got deflected to Scholes, Scholes out wide to Nani, Nani's deflected cross to Rooney's shin. Unanimously voted MOTD's goal of the season  :butt

Bale's was the best for me. Lennon beating someone, getting his head up and then actually picking a team-mate out probably deserves an award on its own, perfect technique from Bale on the finish too.

Really? How?

Not even close for me

I mean technically its not the best - Tevez, as a volley - Meireles, even as circumstances it was 'just' an equaliser, albeit from 4-0 down.

Of course. Rooney's overhead kick was pure luck really. Derby match and he tries something that you very rarely see in any match and hits it into the top corner. Poxy bastard. Meireles and Tevez's were obviously better because they did exactly what they were trying to do. Rooney didn't...oh wait..actually he did. Something wrong here. Can't fathom what it could be.  ::)

Of course the reason why Berbatov's goal, that he took from the left back position, passed to a player, got it back from the player, flicked it back to the same player who once again returned it to him and then hit a 30 yard pass with the outside of his foot to an open man on the wing, who brought it into the box, beat his man and laid it back to the guy that started the move who was ghosting into the box and hit it past a least 6 Blackburn players with a side foot shouldn't be the goal of the season is because he's wearing the wrong coloured shirt and Blackburn are shit.

Wolves and Stoke being absolutely awesome teams.

My mistake.

My mistake.

Tevez and Meireles' shots were impossible to save or stop, both headed straight into the goalkeeper's top left hand corner at incredible pace. Blackburn had a million chances to mark Berbatov, intercept his passes, mark the players in space, stand up in the tackle, close down his shot, etc. but they didn't, which detracts from the quality of the goal because the defending was abysmal.

Purely aesthetically, Rooney's kick was poor. His kicking foot doesn't even move, it just swings with the rest of his leg as a single stump, and the ball bounces low off his shin. Ask him to try to shin in another goal in that manner and he wouldn't be able to if he tried it a hundred times. Anybody, any human being relatively physically able enough to play football, can fluke a piece of skill at one point or another. When I play football, as a defender primarily, I don't even get forward much and there's been occasions where I've turned players inside out, gone on stupid runs and scored from distance.

Take Motson out back, shoot him between the eyes, wrap his corpse in a sheepskin coat and bury him 10 miles under ground.

Thought Van der Vaarts goal should have been more a contender for goal of the season, great football played for that one. Tevez's against Stoke was pretty good aswell but you're not allowed to give the award to anyone but United you see.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/lee-dixon-leave-bbc-football-110511472.html

Thank fuck for that

The BBC's future football coverage will not feature Lee Dixon after the former Arsenal defender announced he is to leave the company.
The 48-year-old revealed the end of an eight-year association with the BBC via Twitter.

"Sad to be leaving BBC," Dixon wrote. "Nothing lasts forever. New challenges ahead. Loved my time there. Wonderful people... Just time to move on."
The news has come as a disappointment to many football fans, who feel that the BBC's commentary and punditry team has become too cosy and lacks insight.

Alan Hansen has come under fire for reported wages of £40,000 a week in the past year - mainly to appear on Match of the Day on Saturday evenings - while his former Liverpool team-mate Mark Lawrenson was criticised for his co-commentary role during Euro 2012. Fans have also questioned former England striker Alan Shearer's preparation and insight.

Dixon, a former full-back, was considered an exception.

"Beeb's lost its best-by-far football pundit in Lee Dixon," tweeted John Wilson. "A proper analyst left on sub's bench too often. Shame."
"Thought Lee Dixon was one of the best parts of BBC's football coverage," added Annie Eaves. "Seems odd they've let him go."
As for Dixon himself, rumours have it that he will join BT's team when they gain Premier League rights in August 2013.

One of the best ones they have actually

Agreed, always thought Dixon came across really well.

He seemed enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the game compared to others who treated it as an easy gig and just said stuff for the sake of saying it instead of it being relevant and valid.
Never seen him playing I think. But looks like a good player.

Definitely. Dixon was one of the few who seemed to actually offer a bit of insight.

Seems rather bizarre for any company or business that wants to grow, why they continue to ignore what many are saying and want. They cannot seriously believe that people not liking Lawrenson actually brings in more viewers.

As you have said, Dixon offers more insight, speaks with a bit of knowledge and experience and not one to just go with what everyone else is saying.

Dixon should have been the only one of the usual crew staying. Linekar, Hansen and Lawrenson are all utter shite, as is Shearer. It's like listening to a conversation between four travelling salesman at a Wetherspoons in Basingstoke after a vacuum-cleaner nozzle conference.

Dixon's off to ITV to take over Gareth Southgate's position, if rumours are to be believed.

Southgate's off to take up a new role with the FA that will mean he can no longer do punditry work.

Dixon isn't a bad pundit in the slightest, least he has some understanding and tries to give an informed opinion of certain aspects of it. Unlike Shearer's fucking commentating of highlight reels and Lawro's unfunny jokes and shite opinions.

ITV continue their improvement if rumours are true of him going there.  Their Euro 2012 coverage was better than BBC's and now they're getting BBC's best pundit.
