Cautiously optimistic. Think there'll be a lot of signings like this under FSG... young, done enough to generate a good impression, but not quite in the crazy cost range. Good luck Fabio!

When will he join up with the squad? Just in time for the Roma game like a few of the other internationals?

Is a good way to be, but I think we know what we are getting here. A young lad who wants to prove himself in the greatest league that has ever been created so sayeth the sky, Hallelujah the sky.

I think Fabio Borini will try his eyestrings out to further move our hopes of another league win. I will daresay that he will give his all every time he pulls on the red shirt or black shirt or purple shirt with the shit all over the sleeves.

I for one am glad that he has become a part of our family and I am sure we will look after him just as we did everyone that has came before him. Try hard Fabio, that is all we ask.

Well, we spent all last season saying we needed a poacher in the box.  I think we just got one.  Hopefully, he's doing that stupid celebration many times next year.  Welcome Fabio!

If it was for 8 million, I think this is going to turn out to be a great buy.  Very good first signing for BR.  Now, another striker, a DM and a wide player please and it will be very interesting to see how we do next season.

looks like a good signing to me............young, highly rated, recognised internationally, not many games under his belt, but excellent goalscoring record for each club he has played for.........fee does not look exorbitant, and he comes without a huge amount of pressure to deliver with suarez already our main man, and possibly stil carroll too.....our forward line looks quite positive, and with increasingly good depth

good luck fabio, hopefully a shrewd and successful signing

Named Fabio, Italian, from Roma.

So he will be made of glass, play like shite and dream of going home.

Seriously though, he looks like the kind of player we need and is clearly familiar and well-suited to the English game, but hopefully with a bit of continental flair. Buona fortuna!

Haven’t seen much of his general play, but from the MostarLFC youtube on his 2011/12 goals he reminds of Kuyt with his finishing.

Looks like such a poacher! :) I love his explanation of the goal celebration - "it means knife between the teeth in Italian - that you never stop fighting".  I think the fans are going to love him.  He does look like a limited player but not super-limited.  He does have a lot of talent and his touch looks much better than Kuyt.  He also looks like much more of an instinctual finisher than Kuyt so I think the only comparable thing is that he looks like he fights really hard for the team.

Might be way off the mark here, but some of his finishing and goals in the box remind me of Ian Rush.  I'm not saying he's the next one or anything daft like that, just a feeling I got watching the compilation.

I was actually thinking more of Gary Lineker (not as good a version maybe but similar).  But, I see where you are coming from.  He is only 21 and could become a fantastic player if he continues to improve.  Carroll should taking notes in training about the merits of getting into the six yard box.

Having said that, while he's a decent signing I hope we get a signing that really takes us to the next level. Borini isn't a player I see doing that.

I am surprised that Roma sold him, because there are rumors of them selling Osvaldo as well. May be this means Osvaldo is staying. Their other striking options are limited as well.

I thought he was very useful for Roma, runs a lot, works a lot, and is decent. The price is about right for such a young player, may be a 1-2 millions too high, considering Barca are willing to sell Afellay for 6-8 million euros. But in English market, it's still a good price.

What I would say is that don't expect Borini to be some superb player right away. I watched plenty of Roma matches (thanks to Luis Enrique managing them) last season, and whilst I thought Borini was one of their better options in attack, he wasn't a magician. He is a hardworking, decent player. Expecting something more may result in frustration. The fact that he couldn't make it into Italian NT squad for Euros should tell that he is still raw, and has some way to go. Competition in current Italian NT is nothing like in the days of Del Piero and Vieri, so if the lad still cannot get in the squad, there's a reason for it.

I hate being a party pooper, but this kind of transfer is worrying me. Nothing against Borini or Rodgers, but this kind of signing is right out of Rafa's Kuyt, Speedy Gonzales, Luis Garcia and Riera bracket. A relatively cheap, limited, utility player. IMO, Liverpool needs to buy 1-2 top class this summer to get back into CL fight.

Was he? sorry, missed that.

Generally though, doesn't change the point. Roma have done about as good/bad as Liverpool in an even weaker league, and Liverpool decides to strengthen by buying a player who Roma are looking to improve upon with acquisition of Destro... a bit worried.

WRONG!

He was in the National squad for the EUROs and so what if he didnt play a game. Juan Mata played like 10 minutes for spain but hes still top class. Im not comparing borini obviously but hes clearly more than you are making him out to be. I dont think anyone is expecting him to be a world beater but he has the potential to be a top striker for years to come. If he can score 12-15 goals in all comps next season id be happy with that. Not expecting ridiculous numbers.

We have watched Carroll sway while the ball bounces off him, and then him falling on his arse numerous times last season. Anything is better after that.

He has never played for Liverpool before, whether you want to project all your hatred onto him because you didn't get picked for the school choir is your business, this is Fabio, he is his own man.
