Jordan Henderson
« on: July 12, 2012, 11:10:47 PM »
Seems all Henderson topics are closed - so figured I'd create a new one.

Quote
Rodgers: “Jordan got a wee bit of stick last year but do you know what, this is a boy who is 21 years of age.”

“He’s come here for a bucket load of money, to a massive club, with massive expectation. He’s moved away from home, he’s on his own and he has to be a world beater straight away.

“It was never going to happen. When I first saw him at Sunderland I thought ‘this kid is going to be a really good player’ – and this kid can play football.

“If he is in a certain system – in an environment which is going to help him and educate him in the game – you will see he’s a player.”

Guess we can stop moaning about him being sold.

Some great quotes from Rodgers there.  I think he can work well in a Rodgers system.  He needs to be given time and confidence.

Hopefully he'll be used a bit more sparingly this season and be developed as a younger player should, sounds like Rodgers is planning to use him in that vein.
Going to be a fantastic player one day, believed it when we bought him and still do.

id like to see him used more in the centre

with a bit more confidence and game intelligence

he works real hard. if you go to a game youll see he covers every blade of grass

just needs to learn to be in the right place at the right time.

Kid blatantly has talent. Just needs to be used in the right manner and it seems Rodgers is well aware of it.

Can't wait to see Hendo playing in a pass and move team. His technical skills are indisputable and when a player has that, there's always a big chance he'll be a success. Plus, he's got the character to succeed unlike say Downing.

I wouldnt really class him as a younger player though. He's had TWO full seasons with Sunderland and a full season with us. He is a England international and captain of the u21's. But now you are saying we should limit his playing time to develop? If anything that will hurt him and be a step backwards.

I'm saying he shouldn't be a nailed on starter for every single game. We shouldn't be afraid to rotate him a bit more, let him control some minnows in the Europa League.

They are both completely different situations. Replacing Jordan with Andy doesn't make it applicable to him.

My point was, all of the excuses(poor choice of word) and scenarios Rodgers is using for Jordan, equally apply to Andy.

Without fully assessing both players or having seen them play for the club, one of them is talked up, whilst one of them is talked down*

* ( depending if Rodgers words were deliberate, or just mischeviously taken out of context by the press)

I have no beef with either player, as both did alright last season, both without setting the world alight, yet both could blossom if given the right encouragement and guidance by their new manager - who - I'm not critisising either.

I just find it odd that two players with virtually identical scenarios are treated completely different, before he's even see them play, in the flesh

Anyway. This is a Henderson thread, so sorry for digressing.

Carry on.

Isn't it clear he just doesn't rate Andy and would rather get someone else in, and in the same vein thinks Henderson has a lot to give to his team

Always hear that Henderson is actually very very good technically and has a ton of tricks up his sleeves, but I think his confidence and mentality weren't right during the season and we never really saw it. The lad seems to have the engine and physicality already, but maybe a boost in confidence and change in mentality/playing system will unlock all the talent underneath...

Trouble nowadays is everyone (or a lot of people at least) expect, or even demand, instant results. You can't buy someone for the future (Henderson, Carroll, Lucas), you can't buy someone who is carrying an injury and say 'they've signed for 4/5/6 years, not 6 months' (Aquilani, Carroll), if there aren't instant results, people don't want to know anymore.

Henderson will come good as he matures, just as Lucas did.
Carroll would probably do the same given half a chance.

Even Aquilani would have been a 'decent' player at worst for us if he hadn't been sent out on loan and written off as a poor Rafa signing.

Wouldn't say it was odd. Rodgers appears to see one of them as more important to his squad than the other.
