Liverpool sign Garuda Indonesia...
« on: July 12, 2012, 06:42:35 PM »

No not a new player, a sponsorship deal. Nothing confirmed on .tv yet, but has quotes from Ayre.

Liverpool sign Garuda to three-year contract
12 July 2012 | Posted in Sponsorship, Soccer, Global | By Tom Love

Liverpool Football Club have announced a new multi-year deal with the national flag carrier of Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia.

Under terms of the agreement Garuda will serve as Liverpool's 'global official airline' for the next three years.

Financial terms of Garuda's commitment to Liverpool were not released, however, Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre did reveal that as a result of the deal the Premier League club hoped to stage next year's pre-season tour in Indonesia.

"This is a fantastic partnership for both parties," said Ian Ayre. "Liverpool Football Club has a huge international following and we are looking forward to working with Garuda Indonesia across many markets in order to capitalise on their rapid growth. It is an honour for us to be associated with a brand that has become a leading player in global aviation, and in particular, a brand that has its base in a region where we enjoy such a passionate fan base. Indonesia is an ambitious country with a rapidly growing economy which the club has great affiliation with and where we hope to hold next year’s pre-Season tour.”

Garuda Indonesia president and chief executive Emirsyah Satar added, "As part of our continued efforts to build Garuda Indonesia into one of the global players in airline industry, this partnership provides us with great exposure in international markets. The global scale that LFC brings will support the initiative to increase exposure while LFC’s huge fan base all over the world enables us to introduce Garuda Indonesia and Indonesia in general to the world.”

I love the Liverpool Way. They really kept us in the dark over this signing. All the knobhead journos had us linked with Aeroflot, but we threw them off the scent. Just surprised Spurs never nipped in to sign them at the last minute.

It is on the official site.

Garuda Indonesia and Liverpool Football Club have today announced a three year partnership that will see one of Asia's most rapidly growing brands become the Global Official Airline for Liverpool FC.

As one of the world's leading football brands, the partnership provides Garuda with access to LFC's global brand awareness and international fan base which will enable the airline further opportunities to grow its business throughout the world.

Ian Ayre, Liverpool FC managing director, said: "This is a fantastic partnership for both parties. Liverpool Football Club has a huge international following and we are looking forward to working with Garuda Indonesia across many markets in order to capitalise on their rapid growth.

"It is an honour for us to be associated with a brand that has become a leading player in global aviation, and in particular, a brand that has its base in a region where we enjoy such a passionate fan base. Indonesia is an ambitious country with a rapidly growing economy which the Club has great affiliation with and where we hope to hold next year's pre-season tour."

Emirsyah Satar, President & CEO Garuda Indonesia, added: "As part of our continued efforts to build Garuda Indonesia into one of the global players in airline industry, this partnership provides us with great exposure in international markets. The global scale that LFC brings will support the initiative to increase exposure while LFC's huge fan base all over the world enables us to introduce Garuda Indonesia and Indonesia in general to the world."

I'd never even heard of them as an airline so the sponsorship will at least create brand recognition.

Would be quite happy pimping ourselves out for an official '?' partner for everything. Doesn't effect us in any noticeable way and makes us more sustainable.

Don't know too much about them to be honest. I know it's just youtube videos, but looks like they really offer us some aerial presence. I don't know what this means for Carroll.

State-owned airline right? Basically a deal with the gov't of Indonesia. Maybe I can get the missus on board for a 2013 holiday there during the pre-season tour.

Why can't we get hold one of the ones from the Gulf? They seem to have a lot of cash sloshing around + their performances are quite good.

I know if the club had a co-branded card with, say, Qatar Airlines I would be using it.

EDIT: Depending on the cash this Garuda Airlines is giving us, they may well be ambitious. Till date they have never showed up in any airline searches to various types of destinations.

Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I had a look. Seem pretty good in the air. Possible Carroll replacement?
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

The model for these deals is the Emirates deals, which established a virtually unknown airline as a well recognised brand. It is not a surprise that it is an unknown airline, they are prepared to pay more, as they get more return from their investment.

Quite worrying to be honest.
Yep there safety record is poor. They almost got shut down a few years ago. Having been to Indonesia countless times I can second that there is a huge lfc following there. This might sound like bullshit but they would easily sell out there 100k national stadium for a lfc pre season game there.

Yes, I suppose it's a bit like Warrior, they paid a lot to be our kit supplier, so they could expand their brand over here.

Our marketing has got a lot better, but it still has a way to go compared to others. We know the owners haven't got loads of cash and this is the way they are going to go to help fund the club.
We need to get more secondary sponsors like Real, United and Barca do. Look at United with AON on the kits and DHL on the training gear, and that annoying advert now. We need to do something like this, although Standard Chartered have probably signed an exclusive deal for everything. Then there is the Audi on the seats (now Chevrolet). The amount of exposure that gets every time Sky show Bacon Face moaning on the touch line. Audi again with Real Madrid paying them a fortune and giving their players and staff free Audi's on the only condition they drive them into training of a morning.

Travelled round Indonesia for several months, used to fly Garuda all the time. This was several years back, but they were errr how can I say this . . .budget. We used to get to fly in the "1st Class seats" (seats nearest the front of the plane, no other differentiating factor) by refusing to sit next to the heavy smokers at the back . . . Global airline sounds like a reach
