Wasn't Borini playing "as a winger" at Roma?

Infact, I'm sure if you look back through the thread there's a quote something along the lines of "Colomba only likes to play with one forwards and Giovinco in behind, Enrique likes to play with 3 forwards, so I know where I'd have more chance".

One of the few occasions I can remember watching him at Roma last season was the 2nd Rome derby and he wasn't playing through the centre, even before Roma went down to 10 men.

Aye, to be fair I actually think Borini would be fine as anyone of the "3" up front Rodgers is likely to play. We do seem to have an aversion to proper wingers/ wide players though (good ones anyway).

I really don't think Borini will play anywhere but as a striker if we sign him. Rodgers played him as a number 9 at swansea, and always played with wingers. Borini just isn't the type of player rodgers has used so far out wide.

Would be happy if we had three front players who are comfortable in any of the three positions. Think it would help our play be more fluid

See, I thought Rodgers would use Suarez out wide and play Carroll through the middle, but I remember saying the big thing Rodgers will have at Liverpool that he could never properly replicate at Swansea, is that Suarez gives him a genuine option to use a "false 9", something he's never had elsewhere. Given how he loves Barcelona I think there's always going to be the attraction to trying to replicate that with someone like Suarez through the centre.

Suarez also plays a similar role for Uruguay, with them using Cavani, a more traditional striker, in a wider and deeper role.

Suarez could play wherever along the front though, let's be fair.

Rodgers knows the player, and you can bet he's been monitoring his career closely, so I'm sure whatever role he puts him in then it will be one in which he is confident he'll excel for the team in.

I think somebody who worked with Borini as a youth at Chelsea and a senior player at Swansea knows exactly where he's supposed to play. If Rodgers thinks Borini can play on the right of a front three or wide right then that's where he belongs. Bottom line. It's likely that the front three will be fluid and his position not particularly set. I'm all for that. If the club is also truly interested than Dempsey, it would make sense as he is also capable of being part of a fluid front three.

Wish people will face up to it that Carroll has a massive fight on his hands to even be in the squad let alone the team.

he may well have but some of us believe its a fight he can win.

The fact that we'll be pushing as high as we can into the oppositions half suggests that our main aim will be to work the ball into the box. It's not like we'd be sticking him on the wing and telling him to whip it in. He'd just be a right forward, no doubt in an attempt to get the best out of Suarez's creative abilities so the finishing is not purely resting on Suarez back again, and when Luis does misfire, we're not devoid of someone who can finish.

Nice indicator of his style of play: great attitude and effort, amazing engine, also excellent burst and acceleration (merely good in terms of pure pace) and good finisher.

Telegraph saying Borini will play on the right of a 433. This is what I mentioned before, don't think he is being bought in to be a central striker. Suarez or Carroll will be.

Well I guess that settles that then...

Ne reminds me a lot of Fabio Borini. Not sure what it is...

I'm thinking of him doing the kind of job Pedro does for Barca. Nothing flashy, just good interplay in and around the box and then a deadly finisher when given the chance.

No pressure though.

Its really 2 players working around Carroll. Maybe Rodgers wants all 3 to be able to contribute to passing and moving rather than having one player who just holds his position?

I don't know anything about Borini but I would hope we are looking for at least 1 attacking midfielder or winger in that front 3? Sterling maybe?

Plus, I will be amazed if Suarez is anything other than the lone front man who leads the line.

Really? I think Suarez has been crying out to be played as a wide forward.

Suarez Borini Dempsey ?

And where's the pace?

We should all get ourselves accustomed to the fact that Downing will be starting a chunk of games next year.

It's not a super exciting signing - he's a limited player.  He doesn't look like he is that fast.  But, he looks like the type of player that gets into the right position at the right time.   If he scores all his goals in the six yard box, I won't care.

Exactly. Spain and Italy's starting XIs aren't exactly pacey, they seem to be doing OK at the Euros and World Cups of late.

Pace is much less important if you play a high pressing game, like we will probably be playing.

i admit.. i've never heard of him till recently..

looking at his touches..(i know i know youtube videos).. he looks the part. In fact, if we can get him for less than 10 mill.. i say its a bargain.

U see him running a lot with the ball and have lots of movement..we need that more than anything to partner suarez.

He did play as a wide forward for Roma. (Just spoke to Roma mate. Will be dissapointed if he loses Borini.) He did also say he drifted into the centre when Totti created space and knows how play the offside trap.
Rodgers also used Borini as a striker at Swansea. (Read that off soccernet.)

I've only seen the man twice or thrice, so don't hand the messenger. ;D
