Pace, ability to score, good movement. I think he would make our team stronger if this link was true. I think he's better than Adam Johnson for the narrow/right striker role. i.e. the Kuyt role.

Doubt this is a proper link though if Gaston Ramirez is earmarked for that role and maybe Sterling.

Unless we use him as a central striker - which many believe is his best position.

I seem to remember we were offered Sturridge as part of the Torres deal.

Was this ever firmly established? I seem to remember people saying we should ask for Sturridge in part-exchange, but I don't recall it being officially on the table.

Chelsea's best striker for me now that Drogba's gone. If there's a chance we could get him we absolutely should. Can play anywhere up front and has loads of unfulfilled potential still. We need competition for all places to get the best 11 out each week, regardless of player's particular transfer fees.

Chelsea have had a bid in excess of 20m euros for Schuurle rejected, it would appear they're definately in the market for forward players.

Surely we can do better than Sturridge?

To replace Kuyt? I mean we could  but it's not realistic.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned thus far this summer is the fact that potentially we could lose a lot of HG players this window - Cole, Spearing, Jones, Gulacsi, Downing and Pacheco off the top of my head. I'm not saying we should sign him just for that, but I suspect it's a consideration; a very good young attacking talent in the last year of his contract who can cover Suarez AND Carroll which lets us (hopefully) go big on the left.
When your Mum used to pick you up from school and you'd run out and be like 'Mummy I got 9/10 in the spelling test today', would she go 'phenomenal, son'.

We did that last year mate, do you think we'll do it again?

I don't.

We may go big on a player that can play across front 3, but I don't think it will be on a 'specialized' player.

Think he would make an excellent signing, lad has a lot of talent.

He does have that Babel condition of thinking he's better in one position than what his coaches feel mind. Personally his play back to goal is poor. In a similar role to what he did under Villas Boas then I think he'd be  good if it were to happen.

Sturridge and Walcott are two players that would pretty much guarantee 10+ goals and 10+ assists each imo. They may frustrate at times, but most talented players tend to.

Don't understand why anyone would want him. People say Suarez is greedy, but he is one of the ebst in the world and had fucking Downing and Kuyt playing alongside him last season. Sturridge is nowhere near the same quality of player and he's 10 times as greedy with fucking Drogba, Mata etc around him.

And the mentions of Walcott are laughable. You go crazy about the mediocrity of Downing for example and yet you would have some who's jsut slightly better. Actually not even that, better finisher and faster. Equal lack of brain.

Agree 100%. Arsenal fans are rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of selling him to us. They watch him on a weekly basis so know his 'quality'.

On Sturridge, I think he's in the Bendtner category of player who thinks he's better than his record shows. Very skillful player but a bit of a show pony and not sure he has the right mentality to make the best use of his talents IMO.

Your also 100% spot on. We all know how shite Downing is but there'll still be teams who think of him as that England international who can cross a ball.

And Sturridge does have a poor mentality. He's not a team player, and Rodgers wants our team to be working for each other. Sturridge won't do that and doesn't have the quality to be one of the players to give us that something different.

He's got his faults but we could sure do with someone with league productivity of 51 starts, 12 sub apps, 17 goals, 15 assists in the last two seasons.

And if we get him, we'll have to play him as a striker. He has an eye for the goal, but rarely passes to anyone.

I'm guilty of it as much as anyone but I think too often people people look at a player's worth to the team they're playing for as opposed to what they could give to us. He isn't that vital to Arsenal because they have plenty of goal scoring midfielders & they're a pretty pacey side, Ramsay, Gervinho, Benayoun, Arteta, Rosicky etc etc whereas our midfield gave us next to nothing last season in terms of goals & other than our full backs our quickest players are a 33 year old with fucked knees & a winger who lets just say failed to shine last season.

We need pace & we need goals. I don't think Walcott's that good a player & he's certainly got his faults but he does score a decent amount a season, he's very quick & he's arguably better than anyone else we can play in his position right now. Also he's only 23, if he looks after himself you've gotta think he's got another 7 years at least in the game.

After having BR say today that he wants players who want to fight for the club, play with passion, etc, I'm not so sure Sturridge is really a player that we're after. That, or Sturridge is one hell of an actor...

Think most here will agree that he's got the technical and physical talents to succeed, but his mentality is all wrong and it affects his play (too selfish, lack of work rate, etc). Sometimes, mentality and willingness to fight is the biggest catalyst to push you just past the final barrier and get a result (as we've seen with Kuyt for so many years). I'd rather take a bit less technical player who has his heart and mind in the right place than one who offers more skill but less effort...

Didn't we buy enough shit English players last summer?  Yeah, let's improve the squad by buying a player that couldn't even get into the awful English squad ahead of our current rubbish.

Robbie Fowler only played 26 times for England. International appearances have nothing to do with how good a player is. David Beckhams last load of England appearances were given to him based on sentiment, not ability.

The greedy part: That is what a Striker needs to be.

A certain Ian Rush was told in no uncertain terms to be greedy and look how that turned out.

DISCLAIMER: I am not comparing him to Rushie on the skills front. Incomparable. Was just merely pointing out about the greedy part.
