Not only was he a bit slow, but he was 18 with developmental and mental health issues.

Noone wants a dangerous, retarded negro on the streets, heaven forbid actually address the underlying societal problems so like you said, he got stitched up and sent away.

No doubt he had the best defense lawyer money could buy as well eh.

I understand that the law is an ass and but when the sentences are this heavy and the plea bargaining set up allows for everyone to cut each others throat's shit like this is bound to happen.

This sounds like a game of musical chairs and this kid ended up standing on his own when the music stopped. Most likely his "friends" had him carry the gun in case they were rumbled at the time.

You may have some valid relevant points. However I feel it's not helping the issue for you to present this particular gentleman as if he's on the end of a massive miscarriage of justice as if he's done absolutely nothing wrong.

Him being banged up seems more than fair enough to me. The only discussion is the length of the sentence.

Do you think it's generally acceptable for people to rob places with guns and discharge their weapons out of interest? Do you think there should be any deterrant to that or should law enforcement agencies and courts just let things like that go if no one has been shot dead?

No. It's cumulative. Each additional, seperate offence yields more time behind bars. It's been going on for years and people have known about it for years.

Yep. If I'd have even thought about getting involved in armed robberies my mum or dad would have leathered the shit out of me then taken me to the station themselves. Along with any other excuse about why people commit crime though, it doesn't avoid one simple fact - there isn't one single person in the whole civilised world (or France) who actually believes it's legal to walk into a shop with a gun and steal.
