Yeah, he was shite at fulham last year scoring 23 goals. Remind me again how our world class strikers done in comparison????

Brilliant. You're so right. He's just what we need to take us forwards. The top six will be in fear of Clinton.

Just last season he scored 23 goals you know.

Yep, hes the future.

This. He would walk into our team at an absolute canter. He's a class player and has been ever since he signed for Fulham

He scored more goals last season than our ENTIRE midfield. The idea that he wouldn't make us better is crazy.

What a brilliant well thought out reply. We could be in with a shout of buying a player who out scored every one of our squad last year and you don't think that's a good move??  Seriously wonder about some of our "fans" at times

Dempsey is a good player who would be a welcome addition to the team.  Rodgers has to decide what players he wants.  For all of our transfers, please do not pull a Comolli and bid way too low for a player.  Please do not drag out negotiations longer than they have to be.

Its a shame if he is going to Arsenal, would have been class here.

Would Arsenal need him? They've got Podolski, Giroud, Gervinho and still have Van Persie. Can't see him going there.

The club does make money from shirt sales, when attracting Sponsors and kit manufacturers they will receive payment based on projected sales. The further the net casts the more we can look to get in any future shirt / merchandising  deals.

Sorry, phrased that really poorly. I meant in terms of a player 'selling' a shirt. It doesn't earn the club loads of money. Certainty not anywhere near enough to put a sizeable dent in a transfer fee.

You don't know what the word journeyman means. He's played for two clubs, been at his last one for five years. Hardly a journeyman.

Don't know why I'm not surprised to see that the same people who wanted Meireles gone, now think that Dempsey won't be a solid addition to our squad. Dempsey like Meireles, may not be a world beater but he is a good player to have in your squad who links up well with others, always moving and always providing a threat from the midfield. Remember, these things weren't there in our team last season with Aquilani's loan & Meireles's departure.

Mirror saying we're looking at bidding £6m

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-manager-brendan-rodgers-invited-1136015

For me he would be a good short term(2 years or so) replacement in the squad for Kuyt.

6 would be okay. Anything higher than that, then id rather look elsewhere. People talking about Dempsey and shirt selling in the U.S should stop. They shouldnt even be the market we aiming for. Look to the east if you want rising national footballer combined with shirt selling. The Mancs got this when they signed Park (whos been good for them) and now Kagawa (Whod probably do better).

They got the idea, we havent. SIGNED HONDA, BRENDAN!

Good player, relativley cheap, used to the league. . If Brendan Rodgers can get player like Leon Britton playing like he did last year is is it beyond reason to think he could get a player like Dempsey really firing?

You mean the almost 30 years of age journeyman right?

He's played 300 games in his career. Know how old Gerrard was when he played his 300th game? 25. He's got much less mileage on his legs than just about any other 29-year-old you're likely to see. You can not rate him, that's perfectly reasonable (I happen to disagree), but to shout about his age tells at best half the story.

              Lucas
    Gerrard     Dempsey
 Suarez             New Winger/Forward
             Carroll

Yes please. The tenacity and potential for goals would be incredible. With our back as solid as it was at the tip of last season, this season under Rogers will be very exciting.

Winger/Forward = Downing/Maxi/Bellamy/Sterling OR Ramirez/Sturridge/Walcott.

 8)

More Coates, Henderson and Suso. All we really need is another CDM.

Hi Mike. Couldn't comment on his twattishness, will leave that to you?.

For me Dempsey is to old for us, he will add nothing to the first team but will add a significant amount to the bottom line.

Im sure he will be good coming off the bench and all that etc.. but does this club need to take another risk on a player who isn't really that good?.  This smacks of Joe Cole to me.

I have no idea of our budget for the Summer, but Im guessing it will be minimal, I'd  rather we didn't spend a significant amount of that of Dempsey and his four year salary

With our dealings in the past I fully understand your concerns about the deal but I think the club has realised that giving a four year deal to a 29 year old is madness, if he came I'd expect it to be a two or three year deal max. I think we learnt our lesson if anything is to go by with the Sigurdsson transfer saga, its safe to say that we wont pay over the odds or kneel to excessive demands of players and agents. Well I hope we have.

Liverpool at the moment is in a strange position in terms of its squad. We actually have no players in their prime. Gerrard, Carragher and Bellamy are in the twilight of their careers whilst on the otherside of the spectrum we have players like Coates, Carroll and Henderson. What players do we have who are 26-29 who are actually in their prime? Skrtel, Agger and Johnson are the ones I can think of the top of my head but we are missing players like Dempsey.

Dempsey as a player is quite underrated by some on here. For ten million for a PL proven player is really cheap in todays market.

All you have been doing is moaning about Dempsey isn't a good player yet you haven't posted one reason why Dempsey isn't a good player. And so fuckin' what if he is 29? He can still offer us around three odd years to us and we can sell him after that. You don't need a team full of world class players to do well.

Clint Dempsey to Arsenal his agent confirmed.. #thanksforthat

Wonder how people will feel if he does well at Arsenal

Dempsey is a very good player.  For 10m I might look it a bit harder than I would usually especially given his age but there is no doubt he is a very good player.

Could someone go and compile his stats on tackles, interceptions and fouls and then rank them with every other player in the league please? I did that a season or three ago and he was about the most effective player defending from the front as was available - outperforming Kuyt, for example.

He'd be a good addition, but we should have been in for him years ago.

For 10m = no way (would much rather have spent that little bit extra getting Siggurdson).
For 6m = worth a punt. Will give us a good 3-4 years.

He'd have been a top player under rafa - was a bit shocked to never see him go for him to be honest. Very similar to Dirk with his knack of scoring and iron will. Seemingly a bit of a c*nt (re Bellamy) but, well..

Just think is a bit late. Four years ago was the perfect time to buy him. Now? We need to box a bit more clever and have scouts to find gems like he was four years ago, surely?

He only hit double figures for the first time in the PL 2 seasons ago. 4 years ago he scored 7 goals in 35 appearances. Excluding last season Dirk has been in double figures his whole career (across all competitions).

To call him a gem would be correctly grouping him with players like La Tallec and Sinama Pongolle.

Can't believe how this club ever got into so much financial trouble a few years ago with all the financial and football experts we have on here!
Who gives a fuck if we spend $2 or $20 million on a player, who gives a fuck if he 21 or 31.  People are being paid to sort theses things out for our club, so can some of our RAWK experts give it a fuckin break with the complaining and constant moaning.

Maybe because we don't have unlimited funds like the Sheikhs over at Man City or the corrupt billionaire at Stamford Bridge? So the amount we pay for one player directly correlates with how much of our tranfer budget is left over to spend on other players.
