We really need to aim for players, who would be guaranteed starters. Under Rafa we had very good first eleven, but were threadbare on the bench. Now it's the opposite. Why can't Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carroll be our squad players? There is no need to bring Mark Davies, because we already have players of his calibre in place.  Go and buy a partner for Lucas instead.
Some might argue we already have 3/4 partners for Lucas. The bigger question is who do we have to cover for Lucas?
In Holland, they don't say they are developing players - they say they are developing future coaches.

Centre forward ;)
As long as he's not related to Kevin Davies, we should be good to go.

Think Jay is a lot better then your implying. As for Gerrard, I agree he cannot hack it in the middle in the fast paced rough and tumble of the Premier League. Hendo and Adam can both fill that role. Lets not forget, before Lucas got injured Adam had his most inspired spell for us.
In Holland, they don't say they are developing players - they say they are developing future coaches.

Signing Mark Davies for me would be up there with getting Hodgson as our Manager. Middle of the road, average, not good enough.

BR at his other clubs didn't really play with a DM. It will be interesting to see if he does at Liverpool.

It will mean Lucas pushing up a bit and not always being behind the CM player/players.

To be fair Lucas has enough composure on the ball to have more responsibility than just act as a ball winner.

I'll trust BR's judgement on this one. If he thinks he can do a job for a decent price then I'm fine with that. Not every player will be a superstar.
True, but it would be nice to have one marquee signing nevertheless.

It doesn't.

Reina, Kelly, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Coates, Enrique, Robinson, Lucas, Henderson, Gerrard, Bellamy, Sterling, Suso, Maxi, Suarez all please me.

Carroll is also beginning to please me.

If we want a centre midfielder, they either have to be clearly better than what we have or back up to Lucas - Davies is neither of these.

How about a champions league winner finishing second in the league ;)

So what areas of the squad would you like to see someone come in before a central midfielder?

To be fair though mate what we need is somebody that will spell the end of Aquilani's and Cole's careers here before Spearing and Adam, provide a real alternative to Lucas or Gerrard.

YAWN, sorry YNWA.

I think we have four areas we can improve:

- Back up to Lucas.
- A Clinical striker
- Improving the attacking wide players
- A top class partner for Lucas, which would mean Gerrard can play higher up the field.  However if Rodgers wants him deeper and to partner Lucas, then we might need a better attacking midfielder (like Sigurdsson).

Depends how Rodgers wants to do it.

But I can't see how Davies improves us.

He is not an improvement on the likes of Henderson and Spearing who play a similar role. Decent player but nothing more. Somehow don't see the bigger clubs lining up for his signature. Not exactly what we need. Would be an unnecessary purchase.

But he wasn't deep laying either.

That's the point Lucas was be pushed up a bit - not saying he will be doing Gerrard runs into the box but he might not be as deep as has been.

I like Davies. I think he suffered more than most as a result of Holden and Lee's injuries, as he was expected to dominate games more and he doesn't seem to be that type of player.

He's technically good, good on the ball, creative, and is capable of driving forward through the middle like Gerrard used to, and Adam often tries to do.

He's be a good option to have in games where we're trying to break teams down, or when teams come and park the bus. I've banged the drum for about 3 years now about not having players who are confident enough to drive forwards and overload the next line of formation (or, drive forwards into progressive zones, for the I-play-FM kiddies out there) with the ball at their feet. Johnson does it from right back, but apart from him the only person who looks to provide overloads with the ball at their feet is Daniel Agger. As I've said, Adam tries to occasionally but his decision making once he gets there is poor.

For a few million quid, I wouldn't turn it down.
You sure you want to do this?

I hope you like the taste of bleu cheese.

Who covers in the centre of the pitch? Please say 'they all do' (as in player closest observes Lucas or X has gone forward creating space and that he will need to fill in).

Leon Britton never went forward, he sat and dictated play. It allowed Joe Allen to then get forward frequently and support Sigurdsson.

It was always retrospective to Swansea's dominance, but he'd never be any closer than 35-40 yards out, which is pretty much what Lucas was doing in games we were dominating.

I don't know enough of him to have any opinion about him, except that he plays in an area where we are numerous, but then it's a matter of whether or not he's better than our available options, and that I don't know enough about. However, I do know that "English" and "PL experience", especially when backed by the argument that foreign players are too affected by their national teams to give their all for Liverpool, is a proven rubbish argument given our experience.
