Thought Torres money was paid in one chunk

Not according to an interview I heard with Tony Evans.

Who cares if we're paid for Torres in chunks or all at once? Doesn't make a difference at all - 50m is 50m and Chelsea will pay.

It makes a massive difference in terms of cash flow, I was listening to an interview with Evans and he said we paid for Carroll in one hit, so that's 35m.
He didn't allude to the finer details of the Torres deal but he said we definately took installments, these are generally spread oner length of contract, so if we took 10m a year over 5 years, it left us with a 'loss' of 25m on the deal last year. Now I know we get the money eventually, but it won't help our cashflow will it.

You can look at it as a paltry 25 grand if you like, but over the course of a five year contract that's £6.5m. What would you say if we had a deal agreed with Hoffenheim for £8m and then a couple days later they came back and said, "Sorry, we now want £14.5m?" I'm guessing if the club just bent over and took it like that you'd be going berserk. It's exactly why we get slaughtered for the Carroll deal. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The analogy doesn't fit. If they came back and said "Sorry, we now want £14.5m - because that's what Spurs are offering" that would be totally reasonable and I don't think anyone would expect them to take a lower offer when a better one is on the table. Just as Sigurdsson has his wage offer from Spurs, which is much higher than ours' by all accounts - leaving us in the position of either stumping up the cash and biting the bullet on what was an undervalued asset to begin with, or losing out in the long run. In a few years, this lad will be worth at least £30m.. that I have no doubt over.

I'm sure we've been led to believe that our Standard Chartered and Warrior deals were going to bring in much more money.

This, added to the fact that we're not longer paying £30 million per year in H+G's interest payments, should mean we're decently off despite no CL money.

So why are we skint?

Because we were basically spending the £30m or so CL money to pay off H&G's interest payments.  Now we don't have the interest payments, but don't have the CL money either, so we haven't really gained much.  We have a bit more per year from deals like Warrior and Standard Chartered though, so we do have a small kitty.

Why wouldn't we be paid upfront for Torres? Abramovich probably has that in his wallet.

Wasn't in effect at the time and wouldn't make any difference anyway, FFP allows for you to something upfront and then account for it on a per year basis.

I don't know what you mean? They're not a sugar daddy. They're not going to bank roll a spending spree and we have a squad carrying a few very overpaid players we can't shift. In terms of transfer kitty we have what we have. We're not rich.

So far we've 'made' £1m from the sale of Kuyt. If we end up with a negative net spend i'd probably start to question the club. But i've got no problem with them trying to get the wages under control and spending conservatively.
I know there not a sugar daddy and i know were not rich and i know FSG / NESV are business men and not the saviours of our club who can and will do no wrong either , as i said the way Kenny went and all the big name managers banded around and imho it was only ever between the 2 which i have previously posted before BR was announced and now the calibre of players were being linked with is a far cry away from even a few years ago and if i would of said this would happen back then there would of been mass hysteria , it hasnt happened yet hence this is why this window is a massive window in my eyes and will show us were we stand now and in the future and as i said i will back the manager and whoever he signs 100% but i am worried about FSG / NESV and cant help that .
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.

Right ok, wasn't sure, always wondered why we'd take installments though?

This is Sig here not messi so he should be greatful at this moment in time to have chance to play for any big club, second point it always will make sense to club to sell to highest bid as that what keeps you club a float as player nope you pick whats best for your a career. All 3 Zlatan, Kaka and Sanchez rejected city money for better career option to date that still was better choice.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez admitted after the match that the manner of his side's victory had stunned him and he stated: "My problem is that I don't have words to express the things that I feel at this moment"

Didn't think you'd need 1600 employees to do that much. That's a staggering number, wonder how it compares to Arsenal let's say.

Don't know numbers, but I know a part-time Arsenal scout who works with a team looking at, mostly, 'low-level players' in Hereford & Worcestershire. Think there's about 5 of them that report back to Arsenal's head scout via the guy I know.

It's interesting stuff. The bastard never tells me much though.

Not better than Pepe.

Now why would we want to let go one of the world's best GKs and a pillar of the dressing room and the GK who solved our perennial GK problem that saw us go through at least 4 goalkeepers before him?

Didn't they say they wanted to increase our wage bill ?

So baffled at our plans and what has been said since the takeover

Perhaps it's a notion of increasing your wage bill on players who have shown they can do it consistently at a high level and for the club, rather than on younger players with a limited CV
