If we let him go because of his wages it would be annoying. Yeh, he's on big wages and letting him go would free up wages for his 'replacement'/younger winger but his wages for one more season is not a lot. He'd no doubt score a couple of important goals (see last years semi against City) that would make those wages for one more season worth it.

Exactly, with Maxi and Kuyt already gone I'd like to see us retain his service for another year even if it's simply as an impact off the bench.

Suppose it depends how long term the club/manager are looking at this project.

If you can both cut the highly paid older players off the wage bill, and free up space to allow developing talent to come through, then although you may get a slight decline playing wise in the short term in the long term it may give you a much higher level.

If Brenden has got his ideas through to the owners that it'll be a push to expect him to get his football philosophy drilled into the players within a short time scale, the best way to look at it may well to be ignore next season and use it to really get them playing how he wants as well as developing the youth, and if they catch on quick and we perform then its a nice surprise, but if not the season after the team should be better for it.

I'm fairly sure we can get at least Kuyt and Maxi's contribution last season from Borrini and probably Cole with Sterling floating around. Dirk was awful all year and Maxi hardly played. I think this is a good move.

We have had a problem at Liverpool for too long where player's wages are dictated by experience and status and not contribution.

That's a good point IMO.
And one we thankfully seem to be addressing.
It seems we are moving towards a policy of offering ordinary wages to begin with and the incentive of an improved contract when the players has proved his worth to the team.
Sigurdsson presumably didn't want that so Brendan told him to do one.
Which is the way it should be

Don't think our budget is £20m we're not going to spend like City but don't feel our budget is set in stone , Rodgers is after 4 players and for the quality he needs id guess it's around £40-50m with that including any player sales .

To be fair mate, Kuyt going was pretty nailed on and Bellamy going looks that way too. Maxi going wasnt a shock as he tried to go earlier dodnt he? And having no money to spend isnt entirely true, but then this is the wrong thread to discuss these issues
