This is a new dawn under Rodgers and it is about time we started getting that belief back and raising our expectations.  The Euros has shown us one thing – some of our players have been vastly under achieving at our club the last three seasons as Gerrard, Agger, Johnson, Carroll have all impressed when used so far.
I am not really that arsed who we sign this summer, obviously I hope we get players who can enhance our side, but if Rodgers can get the best out of the players he already has here we will be top four.

If Gerrard plays like he has been for England and Lucas recovers from his injury we will have the best centre midfield partnership in the league.  We’ve got the perfect ‘sweeper keeper’ in Reina, who might not have been at his best the last couple of seasons but he is still a top keeper and the best with his feet in the league.  Then we have arguably the best centre back pairing in the league in Skrtel and Agger - I don’t see any better than those two when fit together.  Johnson is one of the best right backs in the league and Enrique looked the best left back until Christmas and hopefully a good rest this summer will see him back to his best next season, as when at his best there are few better.

Now our attack let us down last season but we still have some very good attacking players and one of the best in the league in Suarez.   Carroll is beginning to look like a beast the last couple of months and Bellamy was very good last season and is still a match winner when on the field.  We could possibly have another player who could enhance our attacking games and that is Aquilani, who is a talent and will hopefully impress Rodgers this pre season.

You look at our side on paper and it really should be top four:

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Lucas

Gerrard Aquilani

Suarez Carroll Bellamy

With some very good options in Henderson, Shelvey, Maxi, Kelly, Coates etc.

This group of players have been under achieving and I think it is great we have the big teams coming to Anfield in the first three home games as the crowd will be up for it and we usually perform in these types of games. 

Get a good start to the league, some momentum, confidence and we can have a great season.
Yes we need some additions, but Rodgers is taking over a very good squad and if he gets the best out of the players, we will come top four, regardless of who we sign.

But seriously the team really under achieved last year. That's not saying we are/should be world beaters, but at the same time I don't think Rodgers has inherited a squad that is an 8th place side. Even without additions to the squad I would hope he could improve on last year. With additions he should seriously improve.

I am actually looking forward to seeing how he go abouts things to be honest.

Could not agree more. I think some folk forget how badly we under-performed in the league last season. I'm not one for crying about transfers that we don't do. We have a very strong squad imo. I'm excited about next season!

Not just last season, the last three seasons this squad has under performed.

Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard, Suarez all players who would get in most Premiership teams.

I think we will, the first three games are a blessing in disguise, expectations are immediately lowered, as long as we don't get absolutely tanked which I don't think we will everyone will be feeling good & that's a great base to work from. Onward & upward as they say, I'm really looking forward to seeing what B Rod can do with this group of players. Especially if Carroll & Gerrard can bring their good form into the start of next season.

AGGER & SKRTEL ensures a really good defensive line attacking the ball

GERRARD... have your doubts about his injury record, his quality has single-handedly got England through... please do some of them corners and deliveries for Carroll... please?

CARROLL and SUAREZ - firing on all cylinders means goals and chances... pure and simple

let's not forget RODGERS... got a relatively young squad with some top quality older players, I wanted Kenny to stay but for a young hungry coach with a clear philosophy, it's the perfect job (without having to spend big money), expectations will be fairly low

I haven't got high expectations in terms of any particular league position. I've got high expectations for reasons to be excited.

Good OP. I agree, 75% of our squad is definitely good enough to go a long long way, maybe all the way.

With the tactical discipline and clarity of understanding that I think Rodgers will bring, I'm optimistic that even if we are a little short in 2, maybe 3 positions, that we can do very well.

Personally I believe we can compete with everyone until the very end - certainly Arsenal, Spurs, and Manchester Utd... although Chelsea with some of their additions, and Manchester City with their ridiculous buy everyone policy look pretty daunting.

Realistically though, that only matters when we play those teams... I firmly believe we are better than nearly everyone other team in the league, and should be able to get the goods against most of them.

Come on this is a new era, we've got a very good squad on paper - whocares what I or others thought about things in the past?!  (whether right or wrong - we all get things right and wrong... although I still stand by my views on Benitez)

I supported all our managers from the start.

Over time, I might change my opinion - but I give them time.  Benitez got 6 years before I thought we needed a change.  I wanted to see Dalglish get time in the job, I hope Rodgers gets time as well.

I think we have the team and manager to definitely improve on last season, however I am not getting carried away and saying we can make the top 4 or win the premiership. Its fine to quote a classy top XI but making the top 4 and winning the league requires depth and I believe that is where we are lacking

Nothing wrong with being positive and optimistic at the start of the season and I fully support that, just feel there needs to be a bit of realism to balance it out
