If he goes there Im sure he will get them back into Europe with 5 years. Would Rafa want to stay there that long? Knowing him, if that was his target he'd relish it. And he would do it. He always achieves, it is fact of life, no?

Next year is not realistic. 5 years is probably longer than what it would take Rafa, so in 5 years I mean almost guaranteed european places.

He would most likely be sacked if not in Europe next season / year after, managers come & go in recent years quite frequently.

It all depends really, but they might we want to target European places but they would in reality be happy with 7th,8th,9th. That is a club that finished 6th in Serie B last season and only promoted because of a playoff system which occurs only when the difference in points between third & forth placed teams is less than 10 points.

Unless, they spend a good fortune, I doubt they'll expect to reach the European places from the get go, nevertheless the Serie A is a strange league and stranger things have happened there before, they have some good players in Palombo who Inter refused to pay the buyout clause after his loan expired and Coutinho might be joining them as a part of the deal regarding Poli.

It would make some sense, considering Aquilani doesn't want to stay at Liverpool and wants to go back to Italy. You'd figure the price of Aqua won't be much.

If he's ever going to be considered a good manager he needs to get a job sooner rather than later.  Obviously Liverpool has gone, but he needs to move on and get out of the Wirral for his own sake.

You don't think Rafa is/was considered to be a good manager???

Sampdoria will hold talks with Benitez today.

The only possible deterrence is the spending money and therefore the inability to plan out his vision. Hope he takes it because it's a shame that a man like him has been out of the game for 16 months.

Don't agree with the idea of sacking a promotion winning manager to have a better one in the top flight before a ball has even been kicked.

Totally unfair, what is the point in a guy working hard to achieve an objective if he is going to get fired after managing it?

That happens a lot here in Spain, I think the promoted clubs are looking for somebody with experience of the higher league

they had 4 managers in 2011 but it is nothing new and not exclusive to Italian teams.  Rafa can only "succeed" there, only need to bring the club back up and he should be able to do this even with limited budget.  He needs this kind of job in order to re-build his image.

I think the biggest thing is he was holding out for a return to us or failing that another English job. Atletico were supposedly interested but as a former Real boy wouldn't be surprised if he had turned them down. Beyond that I've never seen him linked with any Spanish jobs. Has the post at Villarreal been filled?

You pretty much summed it up!

'With Sampdoria there is nothing, nothing at all. I can confirm it one hundred percent,  there's no chance.'

'His intention is to stay in England, to coach in the Premier league. Tottenham? I repeat he will remain in England.'

So seems Rafas agent is not interested in Sampdoria & Rafa heart is set on coaching in England. Really begs the question if he does not get the Spurs job what job would be get as been a high turnover recently with Liverpool, Chelsea, Villa, Westbrom, Swansea all having new managers.

No club in the Premier League will give him an opportunity to manage them.

Going to Sampdoria would be a good move for him though. He could turn them into something special if they give him the time and backing he needs

Maybe he is in the running for Spurs manager then along with Villas Boas?

It kind of makes sense the one to be waiting for as Redknapp was expected to be off (as England manager). After than his options in the premiership are pretty much gone in the short term.

Sampdoria-Benitez: The wait is almost over
June 20 at 17:00

Sampdoria Benitez is ready to wake up from dreams. In the next few hours, no later than tomorrow, will the response of the Spanish coach about the offer of a three year, six million total before it by Pasquale Sensitive. In Genoa you dream big because the project manager has fascinated the Spanish and the cautious optimism that the company has remained intact in these days of waiting.

Now is the moment of truth: if 'yes' the dream become reality, otherwise Sampdoria will look elsewhere. Giampaolo and Deschamps are in the front row, Iachini remains detached and at this point his tenure at Sampdoria seems far away.

I'd be pleased if he found himself a new job. He's far too talented to be sitting at home watching football on the TV, he's still so young and has so much to offer football.
